Gregory Wayne Clutchette is a martial arts expert, a fashion designer and a master of disguises. He’s employed all those skills to hide from authorities most of his life, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
His rap sheet runs the gamut, with a history of arrests for assault, kidnapping, robbery, counterfeiting, weapons charges and resisting arrests. He has ties to violent street gangs and has connections all of over the United States, officials said.
The last time police arrested Clutchette, he was found near his home in Gaithersburg with seven guns, incendiary ammunition, disguises and equipment to manufacture false identification.
But Clutchette was released and disappeared. That was in 1993. He hasn’t been seen since.
U.S. marshals are asking the public for information that can help bring an end to this 20-year run.
“This is a violent guy who has caused a lot of fear in people that he has come in contact with,” said Matt Burke, supervisory inspector for the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
When Clutchette was discovered in Gaithersburg with the disguises and weapons, he had been on the run for 17 years after escaping from a California prison.
“We would like some help in developing new information and send a message to violent fugitives out there,” Burke said. “They should not ever rest and feel too comfortable no matter how long they’ve been gone. We don’t stop looking.”
Investigators believe Clutchette has established some sort of legitimate business to sustain himself this long. He was a martial arts expert. He had made attempts to start a personal protection business, which included guard dog services. He has fancied himself a clothing designer and may have made attempts to become involved in the fashion industry.
Clutchette uses many aliases, including Muslim Mumin, Al Qawi, Wind Chan and Black Blackstone. He has ties to the Muslim community and at one time legally changed his name to Muslim Qasim Mumin.
He was listed as being 5-10, 210 pounds, with tattoos on his left hand and left arm.
He has strong family ties to Prince Georges County, Md., D.C., Northern Virginia, Compton, Calif., Springfield, Mass., and Atlanta.
