So i came across this case while looking up episodes for the show Missing Reward hosted by Stacy Keach from 1989 to 1992 the show was like AMW and UM but didn’t last that long and was only shown in select areas of the USA. Also there was a Canadian version of the show called Missing Treasures which dealt with Canadian Missing Person and Unsolved Murder cases from Canada anyway onto the murder
This is from an article about the case from Desert News it also mention Missing Reward filming the segment
The bodies of Russell Boyd, 64, and Levirl Toleman, 65, both of Twin Falls, Idaho, were discovered about 17 miles south of Jackpot on Aug. 19, 1989, by the Elko County Search and Rescue Squad. Each had been shot in the back of the head.
They were reported missing three days earlier by their families. Police reports said the victims were supposed to be on a one-day gold prospecting trip. A joint investigation by the Elko County Sheriff's Department, Nevada Division of Investigation and Idaho State Police has failed to produce any substantial leads to the killings, the sheriff said.
Boyd's family has put up $10,000, according to Detective Sgt. Dale Lotspeich.
The TV segment was filmed at the site where the bodies were found. Deputy Chuch Crisp and Marty Shaw, a reserve deputy, portrayed the victims.
Another unsolved Elko County murder also may be mentioned at the end of the segment, Lotspeich said.
Four Point Entertainment of Los Angeles, producers of "Missing Rewards," originally inquired about the slaying of Terry Jarolimick of Burley, Idaho, who was found shot to death in a ditch on U.S. 93 about eight miles north of Wells in February 1988.
The company shifted its main focus to the double slaying near Jackpot once producers heard about that one, Lotspeich said.
An unsolved murder investigators would like to have mentioned on a TV show is that of Barbara Nichols, 45, who was killed in Carlin around the same time as Jarolimick was slain.
Lotspeich said Nichols, who was a clerk at a Carlin gas station, apparently was kidnapped from the station, put in her car and then shot to death about a quarter of a mile away.
The segment on Missing Reward ended up drawing no leads i think maybe if a network like CBS, PBS or ABC would’ve picked up Missing Reward it could’ve been more successful if it had been able to reach more of a national audience like AMW and UM did heck it might still be on the air today if that would’ve happen.
This case has yet to be solved but i did read an article that i now can’t find that said Boyd and Toleman might have been a target of someone or multiple people since the two men owed one person or multiple people money and i believe one had a gambling debt he had to pay back as well to someone.
Also the police don’t believe Boyd and Toleman murder were related to Terry Jarolimick or Barbara Nichols Murder.
They believe Jarolomick was trying to be a Good Samaritan and help someone stranded and possibly saw something he wouldn’t of and was killed because of it and they Believe Nichols was a robbery gone wrong.
