Authorities in Des Moines, Iowa are trying to solve the murder of Rodrigo Duran (pictured left). His son Raul Duran (pictured right) was aired on the 2000 50/50 Fugitives special in connection with this case (more on Raul below). On Apr 3, 1999, Raul, his sister and Rodrigo went to a latino dance hall. Raul got into a fight involving two women and another man named Roberto Paramo. Eventually, someone started shooting up the dance hall and Rodrigo was killed and found dead in the parking lot. Raul was charged with the murder and became a fugitive, ending up on the 2000 50/50 Fugitives episode. This case went nowhere in media for years until a website called Iowa's Cold Cases showcased the case alongside the numerous unsolved murders in Iowa over the past century. It references a correspondence with the Des Moines Police Department in 2009 however it doesn't reference Raul Duran. --- Thoughts? I'm not exactly certain as to where this case stands. The fact that Raul Duran isn't mentioned on the case feature website may mean he's no longer wanted, although the archived AMW page mentioned that he was picked out as the shooter by witnesses. iowacoldcases.org/case-summaries/rodrigo-duran/web.archive.org/web/20040209174344/http://www2.amw.com/site/thisweek/20001118/duranraul_ia20001118.htmlAdmin Note #1: According to iowacoldcases.org, if you have any information regarding Rodrigo Duran’s unsolved murder, please contact the Des Moines Police Department at (515) 283-4864.Admin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Actually maybe I'm having a blonde moment but I'm having trouble following this too and I don't remember this case. So Raul was charged with his father's death? Was Raul wanted for the death of his father because by provoking and/or participating the shootout and he put his father in that situation to be killed? Even with this, considering the fight, there was clearly more than one person involved in this besides Raul. Sorry for being blonde tonight, and no offense to actual blondes, but I'm having trouble following this one.

Here's my interpretation of what happened.
- Rodrigo Duran was shot and killed as a result of the fight at the dance club. Rodrigo was not involved in the fight. - Raul Duran, Rodrigo's son was charged with Rodrigo's murder and went on the run, as well as ending up on AMW. Whether Raul is still at large is not 100% clear.
Edit: Since Raul Duran was only aired on the 2000 50/50 episode, I'm going to assume his profile was around 10-seconds, which is why Scumhunter doesn't recall it.

I think I get it now. Also, only one person was known to have shot right? So I guess it can't be a "shootout." It is at least promising there was a correspondence in 2009.

Being familiar with Iowa's justice system, I decided to try and take a quick look at this case through the courts. Iowa has a very good criminal courts search system - at least if you want basic information - so I went to see if I could find Raul Duran. The only results for "Raul Duran" in Polk County - where Des Moines is located - return at least three people with birth dates for that name, but all of them are born the same day with a different year, so it leads me to believe all three are the same person.
I can find absolutely no serious charges being linked to a Raul Duran. Even if he was charged and dismissed, it would still appear. This leads me to believe one of two things; one, he was only wanted for questioning in the case and never actually charged, which would not appear in the search; or two, he was actually charged but the website just doesn't have the information.
A third possibility could be that he was charged, but the charges were dismissed before the court search went online. That seems unlikely, though, as Iowa's record search goes back decades.
Very strange case indeed though.
