Authorities in Detroit are searching for the unidentified killer of Sherlyn Fleming. AMW aired this case on May 19, 2001 and Sep 18, 2004.
Sherlyn served as a Detroit Police Officer for 25 years before her retirement in 1999. Afterwards, she gave speeches to children to teach them the benefits of staying out of trouble. On Feb 7, 2001, Sherlyn was at a Detroit drycleaner when a man entered the store and put a gun to Sherlyn's head. He ordered her to give him money when Sherlyn pulled out her revolver, however the gunman then shot the retired officer to death. The killer was spotted getting away in a burgundy coloured SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade, driven by another person.
At the time of the murder, the killer was described as an African-American male, who was around 25 to 35 years of age at the time, stood around 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches in height, and weighed around 140 pounds. According to eyewitnesses, he wore a full-sleeved black puffy down jacket, black pants, and black shoes. 30 minutes before Sherlyn's murder, a man was seen talking on a nearby payphone and authorities at the time wanted to speak to that person as he was considered a person of interest.

Thoughts? Sadly this is going to be a very difficult case to solve. All we have is a description of the killer and no composite sketch. At this rate, it will probably take someone confessing or bragging to get an arrest made. Sad, considering how wonderful of a person Sherlyn Fleming was.
