Two people previously considered “persons of interest” in the April 27 double homicide of an Ethel couple are now suspects in the slaying.
State Police Lt. J.B. Slaton said Monday that arrest warrants were obtained for Armando Reyes Diaz, 31, and Dulce Maria Funez, 34, after investigators located and examined a 2009 Nissan Versa with Louisiana license plate WMH918 that the two were reported to be traveling in.
“It generated further evidence,” Slaton said.
Diaz and Funez are each wanted on two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of Eddie Hall, 53, and his wife, Connie Hall, 51, in their Lillian Lane home, Slaton said.
The State Police spokesman said authorities do not have an address for Diaz and Funez, saying they are part of a close-knit local Hispanic community and don’t appear to have a fixed residence.
Investigators on Thursday identified Diaz and Funez as “persons of interest” and said they may be traveling with a young boy, possibly about 10 years old, in the Nissan Versa.
Authorities found the vehicle over the weekend, though Slaton said he was unsure of the details.
Slaton also said they don’t know if the boy is still traveling with the couple or if the pair are still in the state.
“They definitely could be in another state, or they could be in the Baton Rouge area,” Slaton said. “We have no leads. That’s why we need people’s help.”
Attempts to obtain the arrest warrants from the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and State Police on Monday were unsuccessful.
Authorities have repeatedly refused to release any information about the case, including how the couple died and if they knew their killers.
Authorities also have refused to publicly discuss any possible motive for the killings.
East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kevin Garig directed all inquiries to State Police.
“We really want to keep the details to a minimum,” said Slaton.
The only other information released thus far is that a family member concerned after not hearing from the Halls in a while, drove to their home on April 27, went inside, saw the bodies and called the Sheriff’s Office, Garig said.
Deputies arrived at 4 p.m. at the brick home the Halls had lived in for about 15 years.
Gayenel Maggio, Eddie Hall’s sister, said Monday the family will not be commenting on the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information of Diaz and Funez’s location is asked to contact Louisiana State Police Communications at (225) 925-6536 or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867), text CS225 plus your message to CRIMES (274637) or submit an anonymous tip on the Crime Stoppers Facebook page or www.crimestoppersbr.com.
(Edit: Since Above article was posted online, Dulce Funez was captured but Armando Diaz remains at large.)

Thoughts? I was wondering what my last recent non-amw fugitive case should be for the year and I came across this while browsing unsolved crimes in the Baton Rouge area. It's good that the Louisiana State Police is taking this case so seriously. The fact that details are being kept to such a minimum does make you wonder why Armando and Dulce could have killed this couple.
