From liveboston617.org:
Army veteran, 41-year-old Akil Jackson of Mattapan, has been identified by Boston Police as the shooter in the brazen homicide of Alicia Heywood, 42, of South Easton, who was killed just after 13:00 hours this past Thursday, the 29th, in the area of Corinth Street and Birch Street. According to online sources Boston Police District E-5 Commander, Captain Darrin Greeley, confirmed the suspects information earlier yesterday afternoon, asking that members of the public help in the manhunt by contacting Police with any information. This move follows the almost 5 hour standoff Thursday evening that ended in SWAT and Gang Unit members storming a house in Adams Village where Jackson was believed to have been hiding out.
This is not Jackson’s first run-in with the law. A quick google search leads to multiple news stories on past arrests, including 2011 charges from the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of New York. The investigation following his arrest led to the recovery of Bryco Arms, Model Jennings, a 9mm pistol, as well as an unspecified quantity of marijuana. The investigation was a joint effort conducted by the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York, the Rennselaer District Attorney’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, and ultimately led to Jackson spending 24 months behind bars.
In 2016, Jackson was charged after threatening a former girlfriend with a handgun because she wouldn’t get an abortion. According to prosecutors in that case, Jackson threatened the 35-year-old woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of Kohl’s in Mansfield Mass. In this case, Jackson pleaded innocent to charges of Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, denying uttering threats to kill and domestic assault; we were unable to find any articles on a possible conviction. It is also unknown if this woman is the same as the one killed on Thursday.
There isn’t further information available about the current investigation as the search for this dangerous fugitive still underway. We did reached out to Boston Police through official channels ourselves and were unable to get confirmation at this time. That being said, it is imperative that any persons with information related to Jackson’s whereabouts contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at 617-343-4470.
