Many years ago I was unknowingly involved in a business venture with a man later implicated in a California armored car robbery. He disappeared from Ft.Worth, Tx with a female employee without a word to me or his fiancee. Believed to be Austin bound by his gilted ex he was allegedly arrested in New Mexico a short time later I believe his real name to be Richard Reese alias David King. An ex-Marine and likeable fellow, the robbery was national news but I've never been able to locate media on his arrest or conviction. This would've transpired mid 70's. The details of the heist were unique in that his co-conspirator also an employee got cold feet and left Reese afoot w/the cash. He laid in a bar ditch still in his uniform while Brinks security responded to the scene, arriving at the bus terminal got a ticket to the first departure which happened to be Ft Worth, Tx. I was interviewed by various print media reps, it seems the event was suppressed as I'm unable to verify it after failed attempts

hi uzd, welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, the only articles I could find are subscription only sites where you have to pay to view them, but they seem to mention Richard Reese. One is from the Wisconsin State Journal in 1976, and the other is the Salina Journal in Salina, Kansas in 1985. Hopefully anyone else can find some things as well. www.newspapers.com/newspage/7957783/ www.newspapers.com/newspage/736964/

Thanks for your timely response, spent hours w/this guy and his pseudo family prior to his disappearance and thought I might learn more about him. My father is a retired chief w/help from a prosecutor and ex-fed judge they came up empty. Reese leased the street facing suites where he stayed and would spend long hours monitoring several RF's and watching traffic. No way to live..
He was from the Cal. San B. valley and may have been in the illegal exotic reptile trade. The press interviews w/known contacts revealed he was adamant about 'making and spending a million b4 age 30' which he achieved, actually closer to two.

Might his name have actually been Richard Rees? With no E at the end? Did some more digging and found this article from December 3rd, 1980. It says the FBI arrested him in New Mexico as you stated and he only had $400 dollar left in his pocket. It says he was paroled after 2 years after 3 months and at the time of the article, was making wooden toys in his parents' basement in Yuba City, California. news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2245&dat=19801203&id=XsIzAAAAIBAJ&sjid=wzIHAAAAIBAJ&pg=5292,3968777

Unfortunately you have to copy and paste the link for some reason, but I think this is the guy! And confirmation of his conviction.

Thanks for your persistence. That's the gent, the articles aren't accurate in some respects.
