From the Albuquerque Journal (abqjournal.com):
A man is charged in the death of a 15-year-old girl who was killed during a shootout near an elementary school in Northeast Albuquerque earlier this year.
Isaiah Hayes, 20, faces a count of child abuse resulting in death, kidnapping, tampering with evidence and multiple counts of false imprisonment and bribery of a witness in the May 2 death of Angelique Anderson.
Albuquerque police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said detectives determined that Hayes’ actions “directly contributed to the victim being struck by gunfire.”
Police say Hayes opened fire at another man who fired back and struck Anderson in the head. The other man has not been charged.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court:
Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to gunfire around Hawthorne Elementary School, near Copper and Wyoming. Police found Anderson dead on the road near some bullet casings.
Police spoke with a man soon after who told them another man shot at him and in self defense he fired back with his rifle. He said he saw a body in the road afterward.
An autopsy found Anderson’s wound consistent with a “rifle round fired from a distance.” Multiple people at the scene later identified Hayes as the man who shot at the other man with a handgun.
A friend of Anderson’s said she was picked up by Anderson, Hayes and four others. The girl said they went to a Smith’s grocery store off Arenal, where an employee gave them a handgun. From there, the girl told police they went to the park where multiple fights broke out, the last one being between Hayes and another man.
She told police everyone was leaving when Hayes and Anderson got out of the car and Hayes fired “warning shots” at the man he had fought. Witnesses told police the other man got out of his car and returned fire with a rifle.
The girl told police Hayes got back in the car and said Anderson was dead. She said they begged the driver to go back, but Hayes told him “keep driving or I will shoot you.”
The girl told police Hayes told the group to “have the same story” and to clean the gun before they dropped him off Downtown.

Thoughts? Hayes would apparently become a fugitive in this case since he is now listed on the Albuquerque Crime Stoppers Metro 15 Most Wanted list (as of January 21st, 2020). Also as of this posting date (1/21/2020), Bernalillo County online search still shows a warrant for Hayes- and lists his full name as Isaiah Elijah Anthony Hayes.
