Lisa Kay Murphy was accused of the ultimate betrayal of her life partner. And now she's accused of hiding from taking further responsibility for her alleged heartless indifference.
Murphy's husband, James Murphy, was in a car accident in 2016 that left him quadriplegic and in need of 24-hour care. Two years later, James Murphy was found dead in his Valrico home, with severe bedsores, that exposed bone and tissue.
Prosecutors say his wife and daughters never sought medical attention for his ailments, and he died.
Lisa Kay Murphy would be charged with aggravated manslaughter and faced up to 30 years in prison. Her daughters, Amber and Shayla, would face neglect-related charges with a possible sentence of up to 5 years in prison.
As if the case couldn't get worse, in 2020, while out on bond, Lisa Kay Murphy would get in legal trouble once again when she would be accused of fraud after allegedly forging a deceased veterinarian's signature to sell a puppy.
Documents show she used white-out to forge the name of Dr. Bruce Anthony, a veterinarian that passed away in 2019.
The unidentified buyers or victims in this case also noticed several mistakes on the document including dates that showed the puppy getting its shots before the puppy was even born.
Just before Christmas, Hillsborough County Judge Michael Williams revoked Lisa Kay Murphy's bond. Murphy was previously hoping for leniency, claiming she had a staph infection in her brain. She agreed to turn herself in, but never did and according to Fox 13 Tampa Bay, she is now considered a fugitive.
Thoughts? As of this posting date, a search of Florida's public access wanted persons database still shows a warrant for Lisa Kay Murphy's arrest on the fraud charges. I put 2020/2021 as the wanted years since the forgery warrant is from December 2020 but it seems she wasn't officially declared a fugitive until this month.
Also, Hillsborough County court case search just shows a bunch of administrative events since a January 13th, 2021 warrant was issued after Murphy failed to appear in court.
