(Above photo credit: doenetwork.org) Investigators are trying to identify the body of a young woman who was killed nearly 40 years ago. AMW aired the case in 2010. On Sep 12, 1976, police were called to the discovery of a murdered woman wrapped in a sheet and tied with knots in the Woodlawn section of Baltimore. She had been raped and murdered and her head had been covered with three different pieces of cloth, including a seed bag from Massachusetts. A woman and her son reported seeing a blue Ford Econoline van at the scene around the time the woman was dumped at the location. The victim is described as a white female, between 15-30 years old, 5'6-5'8, 159 lbs, and had brown hair and brown eyes. Thoughts? Investigators have reviewed this case and publicized it numerous times without any success. It was another of those cold case unsolved cases AMW aired a lot of during their last year of FOX. I don't really have any theories on the victim or her killer sadly. www.doenetwork.org/cases/279ufmd.htmlModerator Update (September 15, 2021): The Woodlawn Jane Doe has officially been identified as Margaret Fetterolf. Authorities are still trying to determine who killed her.Admin Note #1: According to the Doe Network, if you have any information about this case please contact: Agency Name: Maryland Office of Chief State Medical Examiner Agency Contact Person: Charlotte Romero Agency Phone Number: 410-333-3254 Agency Name: Baltimore County Police Department Agency Contact Person: Homicide Unit/Unsolved Case Unit / Detective Philip Marll Agency Phone Number: 410-887-3943 or 6162 Admin Note #2: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Here's my run-down of what AMW the last year on Fox's episodes looked like: Segment 1/2- Two-part re-enactment Segment 3- Extremely old Jane Doe or infamous "Unsolved Mysteries" case not solved for decades Segment 4- Missing student in Japan *possibly* murdered or other type of foreign case unlikely to get solved in the U.S. Segment 5- One-part renactment But anyway, I digress. The problem is with this case being as old as it is it may be hard to identify the woman with the forensic technology from back then being nowhere near what it is today.

Ugh! THIS case again! I remember how the posters at the old amw.com prospero forums noticed how inappropriate the profile was. We determined that AMW's worst segment of 2010 was the one where the Woodlawn Jane Doe Murder was made into some cheap torture horror film trailer! Heroic as Walsh may be, his team as a whole have made some un-called-for moves, and this was among their worst!
Sadly, I'm starting to doubt the case will ever be solved. Without any leads, and with no sign of a break in the case any time soon, and after nearly 4 decades, the killer likely would be dead. I wonder whose "smart" [/sarcasm] idea it was to air this case and make that ***-forsaken segment!

Does anyone remember which of those Jane Doe or cold cases AMW aired in 2010-2011-ish was the one with the Lovely Bones-type narrator?
It was really the last year and a half or so on Fox when the odd moves and questionable decisions happened, and then they had one of their best seasons on Lifetime. (I know Walsh is still the main man, but I credit AMW having an excellent EIC on the last year as well for what in my opinion was a great Lifetime season that only didn't continue because of Fox's increased license fees). On the surface, it wasn't a bad case to air imo, it was just the fact that it was among a bunch of Jane Doe cases. Do one, okay, but they did a whole bunch of them over airing fugitive cases more likely to get solved. Also, of course, the way they chose to portray the case.
I agree I was disappointed with the AMW airing. Although the end of the day, what's most important is against all hope this case gets solved.

The Bones Jane Doe case out of New Mexico had the "Lovely Bones" like narrator.

Crime Watch Daily did a segment on this case- in my opinion, it was much better than the AMW airing. (Former AMW correspondent Michelle Sigona was actually the person who did this segment). They mentioned Woodlawn Jane Doe was drugged with a powerful sedative, and the sheet she was found with comes from a psychiatric hospital. So this means she was possibly either a mental patient or killed by someone who worked or lived in a mental hospital. In addition, she is almost certainly from the Boston area. crimewatchdaily.com/2015/10/05/unsolved-woodlawn-maryland-jane-doe-1976/

That was never mentioned on AMW's profile, and I'm really curious as to why it wasn't. It's an important clue!

Lots of major updates from last year. One of ANW's rare misses or not, this is a solvable case!: -According to a new lead released publicly last year, the young woman's name may have been Jasmine and she may have used the nickname, "Jassy." She may have lived with her family on Forbes Street in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston in the early 1970s. She may have relatives by the name of Blanca, Tito and Santana. Also a new facial reconstruction photo was released (credit: Wikipedia via National Center for Missing & Exploited Children): www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/bs-md-co-jane-doe-face-20160912-story.html

The Woodlawn Jane Doe has been identified as missing teenager Margaret Fetterolf! I have updated the thread title to reflect the progress that has finally been made in this case. The killer's identity is still unknown unfortunately. baltimore.cbslocal.com/2021/09/15/woodlawn-jane-doe-identified-as-missing-virginia-teen-in-1976-cold-case-murder/Also just want to make a comment about our criticism of the America's Most Wanted airing, just in case any of Margaret's relatives sees this thread. The criticism has nothing at all to do with the fact that Margaret's family needs justice and answers. It was just an overall criticism regarding numerous decisions done as far as content that was aired on AMW during the last season on FOX, which was the 2010-2011 season. Mainly doing segments that regular viewers felt were "bizarre", along with some other decisions. Let me make clear that I am very glad some progress is finally being made in this case.
