Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Eric Matthew Frein, 31, accused of first-degree murder in the killing of Cpl. Bryon Dickson II, a 38-year-old married father of two, at the Pike County barracks in Blooming Grove. Trooper Alex Douglass, 31, was wounded as he arrived for duty. Neither had a chance to return fire, state police said. State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said the attack Friday appeared to be aimed at law enforcement rather than the individuals he shot. "He has made statements about wanting to kill law enforcement officers and commit mass acts of murder," Noonan said. "What his reasons are, we don't know. He seems to be very angry with a lot of things in society." Lt. Col. George Bivens said at least 200 law enforcement officials were hunting for Frein, 31, who faces first-degree murder and other charges. Bivens described Frein as a survivalist, and Bivens warned that Frein should be considered armed and dangerous. "I would encourage the public, if they see something suspicious, don't hesitate to call us," Bivens said. Frein, of Canadensis, Pa., about 20 miles from the scene of the shooting, has only a minor criminal record, Bivens said. The shooting took place in Blooming Grove Township, a town of 5,000 in a rural section of northeastern Pennsylvania about 35 miles east of Scranton. Noonan said a neighbor walking his dog found a Jeep partially submerged in a swampy area about 2 miles from the site of the shooting. Authorities then found Frein's Social Security card, gaming permit, face paint and shell casings. Police said the gunman used a high-powered .308-caliber rifle that resembles an AK-47. The gun is used by police and military sharpshooters and is popular with target shooters. Hunters also use a version of the rifle. A court affidavit said Frein's father is a retired U.S. Army major who served 28 years, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He reportedly told investigators that he had trained his son in marksmanship, that he was on his high school shooting team and that his son "doesn't miss." Dickson was a Penn State graduate and a Marine veteran who joined the troopers in 2007. His funeral was set for Thursday at St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. "It's gratifying to me that we could do this (name a suspect) before the funeral of Cpl. Dickson," Bivens said. Dickson's funeral is scheduled for Thursday. Admin Update: On Thursday, Sept. 18th, 2014, Eric Matthew Frein was added to the FBI's Top 10 List.www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2014/09/state_police_shooter_in_pike_c.htmlwww.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/09/16/trooper-killer-highway-closed/15710479/www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/eric-matthew-frein/view

I'm going to delete the unknown killer thread since we now have a name for the breaking news police slaying this past weekend.
Scary situation in Pennsylvania, hope there's a safe conclusion for everyone here.

The manhunt continues. CNN was covering it when I was flipping through channels. It also turns out Frein belonged to a "military simulation unit" modeled after Cold War-era Eastern European soldiers. He's believed to have changed his hairstyle shaving it on the sides, leaving a wide, Mohawk-like stripe on top in preparation for the attack on the state troopers. www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/09/17/manhunt-trooper-survivalist/15765907/

There seems to be such vague (understandably) information here. I see reports of gun fire then them having him cornered then I see one saying police won't say if he's cornered or not. Now I read this morning he's in a "sort of standoff" situation. I am assuming they have him cornered somewhere. But we all know the famous saying about assuming. Hope this ends soon. The irony is my parents honeymoon was in the Poconos which is the region this is happening in. People don't just live there but vacation around the region as well. This manhunt needs to end soon.

Remember last year when CNN said they had the Boston Marathon Bomber in custody before they actually did? Apparently they didn't learn their lesson, and I didn't learn my lesson not to always trust them. No scheduled press conference on Eric Frein as planned and he appears still to be on the loose.
I'll always have a debt of gratitude to CNN for bringing back John Walsh, but as far as their news reporting goes...

So it seems there was never any confirmation on that gunfire and whatever is going on, Frein's still not captured. Obviously, safety should be a first priority, but these people have lives. School has been cancelled, they were on lock down for a long time and even though that 'shelter inside' was lifted they probably still feel like prisoners until this is over. I hope they can end this soon so the people in this region can go back to having a sense of peace and normalcy.

There's a press conference at 3 PM updating the manhunt. I'm assuming CNN and/or the other news networks will carry it.

Press conference now. Not much new besides them finding a rifle believe to be belonging to Frein. Still on the loose. Residents urged to lock all door and windows. State police say they're making progress and investigating sightings. They also said there were NEVER any gun shots. *sigh*.

A few more updates: Another press conference today, this time with the Governor of Pennsylvania. Not much new, but he's confident Frein will be caught. Also, I am amazed at the ineptitude of reporting even after Friday night. Unless Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col George Blevins, who's conducting the press conferences says himself that Frein is captured or dead, don't believe anything you read in the media. I saw an article from the Pocono's Daily Record claiming radio reception said Frein was surrounded and refused to surrender. Of course hours later nothing said about that. That's irresponsible reporting especially after the false reports from Friday night. I admit I did fall for those CNN initial reports. But the old saying is fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. So at least I was only fooled once.
