From courier-journal.com:
The FBI's Louisville branch is searching for a local inmate who escaped from Metro Corrections overnight.
Anthony Martinez broke out of the downtown Louisville jail early Tuesday morning, according to the FBI, and is wanted on state and federal warrants. A 30-year-old man, Martinez is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and was shown with very short dark hair in his mugshot. He should be considered dangerous, the FBI said in its release.
Anyone with information about Martinez's whereabouts is asked to contact the FBI at 502-263-6000.
Martinez was taken into custody in February on several first-degree robbery charges over incidents that took place over the course of several years. Court documents filed at the time and in the following months said body camera footage, social media, cellphone records and the getaway car used during the robberies connected Martinez to the alleged offenses.
He was also charged with criminal mischief and promoting contraband over the summer in another alleged possible escape attempt, as investigators at the time said a hole was discovered in a wall of a shower area where Martinez had spent more than four hours fully clothed one day. A pretrial conference over those allegations had been scheduled for Thursday, court documents show.
On Tuesday, according to Metro Corrections spokesman Steve Durham, Martinez broke through a window at the jail in his escape. Photos provided to The Courier Journal on Tuesday showed a broken window at the jail and what appeared to be a hose dangling over and down an exterior wall.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, Durham said, and corrections officers are working with other law enforcement officials to bring him back into custody. Durham said an internal investigation into the circumstances behind Martinez's escape is also underway.
Tracy Dotson, spokesman for FOP Lodge 77, which represents Metro Corrections employees, cited "dangerously low" staffing levels and overworked employees at the jail as being behind the escape. Security staff on every floor of the Metro Corrections building over the weekend was down 50%, Dotson said.
