From the New York Daily News (nydailynews.com):
Carol Nystrom was bright, artistic, hardworking — and too kind for her own good.
As authorities hunted the boyfriend wanted for fatally stabbing Nystrom in their Inwood apartment, a longtime friend recalled the victim Friday as someone who remained loyal to her suspected killer despite his troubled past.
The oft-arrested Joshua Martinez, 33, remained in the wind as the victim’s devastated friends were left to mourn her loss.
“She had a very warm heart, and it was impossible for her to believe the worst about anyone,” said Mary Panzer, her friend of 10 years. "She told me numerous times that when Josh was on his meds, he was the sweetest person.
“They would argue, and then they would always make up," said Panzer.
Most recently, the 44-year-old Nystrom welcomed Martinez back home after his March arrest for trying to shake down an acquaintance for $10, then stealing the man’s wallet and using a blade to slash him in the back, ear and forehead, police said.
Released after two days behind bars, he returned to Nystrom and the apartment where he allegedly beat and stabbed her to death.
“Carol did the best she could,” recalled Panzer. “But he was out on the street, doing whatever he did. Buy drugs with her money, that’s what he did. I think he was a bad guy. But she couldn’t see it ... I hope they catch him.”
While Martinez had a rap sheet with multiple arrests dating to 2009, Nystrom was a beloved neighborhood figure. She worked as a dog walker for a local clientele, and delivered food for Doordash. She was an exceptional seamstress, creating beautiful COVID-19 masks for friends, said Panzer.
Cops found Nystrom’s body Thursday afternoon inside the bedroom after a friend called 911 for a wellness check, and it appeared the body was in the apartment for several days prior. There were no details on a possible motive.
Inwood resident Karla Fisk recalled her friend of 15 years as a brave soul who was open about her struggles with bipolar disorder.
“She had such immense courage, an immense heart,” she said. “She was such a great gift to the world. She had such tenacity and such strength and such kindness.”
Multiple neighbors described a tempestuous relationship between Nystrom and Martinez, featuring daily fights and repeated police visits to the apartment where blankets covered the windows and graffiti adorned the walls.
“They were always arguing,” said a 26-year-old neighbor in the building. “Almost every night, arguing, fighting."
A neighbor directly across the hall from the victim’s apartment recalled an incident two years ago when Nystrom was pounding hysterically on his door, shouting that the boyfriend was trying to kill her dog.
“We actually called the cops for her,” he said. “She said her boyfriend was off his meds. She said he was trying to harm her dog. By the time cops got there, he had already fled.”
The man described the twosome as a strange and mismatched couple.
“She was pretty nice,” the neighbor recalled. “He was pretty odd. Sometimes he would try to talk to me. Some days it was normal conversations, and some days he would just be really quiet.”
Cops said the Hispanic suspect, about 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds, last seen wearing a grey New York Yankees jersey. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

Thoughts? Based on local online articles, Martinez was still at large at least as of September 19th, 2020. This is also a very concerning manhunt since according to additional articles, Martinez allegedly called the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline and threatened he was going to kill himself via suicide-by-cop: nypost.com/2020/09/19/nyc-murder-suspect-threatens-suicide-by-shooting-some-cops/
Also I'm sorry for the odd wording in the article as usually they say "the suspect is described as a Hispanic male, black male, white male etc.." while this says "the Hispanic suspect." Martinez is a dangerous psychopathic scumbag based on what he allegedly did and his career of alleged incidents and not because of his race but just in case anyone was offended it was the Daily News's and not our wording (which is ironic since it is normally considered a more politically correct paper than the Post).
Anyway what's most important is locating Martinez. He allegedly killed his girlfriend, is threatening to shoot cops, and has allegedly violently assaulted other people as well. This guy needs to be located ASAP.
