Fugitive Profile as of August 31st, 2014 (Based on 2011 AMW.COM archive, Florida Department of Law Enforcement public wanted search): Aliases: Gaston Jolicoeur, Jacques Rene Sex: Male Race: Black Date of Birth: December 24th, 1957 Height: 5'7" Weight: 180 lbs. Hair (Color, Description, Facial Hair): Black, Short cropped black hair Eyes: Brown Traits and Habits:-Haitian native -He speaks fluent French and very little English -Works as a voodoo priest -He has travelled between Haiti and south Florida Location information: Haitian communities-Esnel Jean is likely to be living among other Haitians and police believe he may still be practicing voodoo. Last Seen: North Miami, Florida Other Possible Locations: Haiti. Florida. Dominican Republic Who to call if you've seen him: According to FDLE wanted persons sight, anyone with information should contact the reporting agency at (305) 471-1702 or click on the "Send Tip" button at the following link: pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/person/WantedPersons.jsf[/b]In 1996, Esnel Jean, described as a Haitian voodoo-prince, allegedly murdered his wife, 17 year-old son, and 5-year old daughter in Miami, Florida. The three victims were found in a crypt-like structure in the garage of their house. AMW first aired Jean in 2000 and he made #3 on John Walsh's first ever annual top 10 list. (Although every single poster on this message board has him at #1). I even put Jean on my personal dirty dozen but removed him when AMW removed him from the site. It's all the more disappointing since Jean's last airing seemed to generate promising tips (does anyone exactly remember what those were. I just remember reading on the old forum they came thisclose to getting him.) According to the article below, although I don't know when it's from, Jean was at one point believed to be in Haiti and takes frequent trips to the Dominican Republic. Where he is today is I question I hope is soon found out. In my opinion, he's just as bad as my personal # 1, Robert Fisher. www.oocities.org/voudouqueen/voudou.htmUPDATE: As of July 23rd, 2018, Jean still has a warrant for homicide, according to Florida's online public access wanted persons search: pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/person/WantedPersons.jsfAdmin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Despite the evidence pointing to him being elsewhere, I can see him living in a Haitian community in a big city in the US. Brooklyn has some neighborhoods with Haitian businesses and I can definitely see him there.

The 2009 AMW airing mentioned that Jean may have been travelling to Florida on a boat from Haiti. There may have also been a mention that Jean was working on the gulf coast although I can't say for certain.
I am bothered by the lack of attention AMW has given Jean, especially when you consider his four airings to the double-digit amount of airings that Robert Fisher has gotten, despite the fact that Jean's been wanted longer than Fisher! There was also the huge gap between his airings in 2000 to his two airings in 2009. I don't get why there isn't more outrage and attention on Jean's case.

The only reason I removed Jean from my Dirty Dozen is I felt I had no choice- he'd make my list of twelve most wanted fugitives in general, but as far as AMW goes, he's no longer on the site. I never got the lack of outrage either. Maybe AMW never made that big a deal out of him (relatively speaking, he was at least on Walsh's 2000 list) because they were pretty confident despite the Florida lead he was likely in Haiti, pretty much impossible to catch.

Well, that is the question for him and another fugitive tied to Haiti- Jean-Marie Jean-Francois because of the massive Earthquake there in 2010. But it's also possible Jean was in Florida, or travelling to or from when the quake hit. Or my theory, in a Haitian community elsewhere.

Unforutnately, I don't have an update on Esnel Jean yet. However, with the capture of Wesnel Isaac in Haiti I wanted to bump this up. Since A) This proves a fugitive can get caught in Haiti and extradited back. and B) I'm sure we have some visitors from Haiti on the site now reading up on the Isaac case. (Just my logic that whenever people learn of an update in a case in their area/country etc. they may Google and find this site) It's a long-shot but by featuring him prominently up top again, maybe we can bring attention to someone who has info on him. I hope so since I'd really like to see him caught.

According to Newslibrary, Esnel Jean has reportedly been safe in Haiti since 1997. Now I understand why there hasn't been much national and international media attention aside from the four AMW profiles in 2000 and 2009. All this time, he's been untouchable unless Haiti wants to kick him out of their country.

You'd think even Haiti would want to extradite a guy who allegedly killed his own family. Hopefully that changes soon. Not holding my breath.

Better late than never but after realizing I forgot to pick a new case of the week yesterday our case of the week for this week is Esnel Jean, who unfortunately according to the FDLE public search still has a warrant for homicide as of August 19th, 2019.
I realize this may be more an international pressure case rather than a where is he hiding case but anything we can do to help continue to publicize this case and put some sort of pressure on Haiti to do the right thing and send Jean back here I want to try.

If Miami-Dade County ever does a serious effort to publicize fugitive murder suspects again, I hope Esnel Jean is one of the first cases they post. That county is a be of the few in Florida where case details can be scarce and attention seems to still be on drug traffickers from the 70s, 80s and 90s decades.

The U.S. does have an extradition treaty with Haiti, and murder is an extraditable offense under it. I’m guessing though that the main reason he hasn’t been extradited is due to rampant corruption by Haitian Government officials.

Just wanted to add that as of today, August 8, 2020, Esnel Jean still has an active Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution case in PACER. The UFAP case has had no movement since 1996 and thankfully has not been closed since Jean is still a fugitive. That means federal authorities are most likely still doing some type of investigation into this case.
Additionally, the PACER documents state the brother of an acquaintance of Jean's spoke to Jean in Haiti right after the murders.

With the capture of Yaser Said, our forum members have named Esnel Jean their new Public Enemy #1 where he remains as of August 28th, 2020.

I agree with him being the new Public Enemy #1. Have there been any solid leads as to where he is following the Haitian earthquake? Not using death as being the certain answer here: just a possibility.
