Courageous Daughter Tries To Take Down Father's Killer
On March 22, 2005 Michael Perea and his daughter were spending time with friends at their home in Albuquerque, NM. But the visit was brought to an abrupt end when Perea's daughter witnessed his death.
It all started when someone knocked on the door of the Perea residence. Police say Michael stepped outside to see who was there, but was caught off guard when a man with a knife started jamming the blade into Michael's upper body.
Worst of all, police say Michael's 14-year-old daughter witnessed everything. They say she heard odd noises coming from outside of the house and went to see what was going on. That's when she saw her dad being stabbed.
But investigators say she didn't just stand there in shock. The brave little girl made a big, bold move. She decided to chase after her father's alleged assailant. She grabbed the man by his shirt and caught a glimpse of his face. Even though he got away, the encounter helped her help police.
Police and rescue crews headed to the crime scene to try and save Michael, but it was too late. He died in a puddle of blood just steps from his front doorstep.
Catching Her Father's Killer
The young woman told police she recognized the man who stabbed her father. Cops say she identified him as Jose Perez -- someone who her family knew from church. However, after investigating, police say while Perez was involved, he is not the person who drove a Blade into Michael Perea's chest.
Police say they soon learned that on the day of March 22, Perez along with Marc Herrera, Carlos Velasquez and Manuel Aguero loaded into Aguero's car. Herrera told cops he was behind the wheel and Aguero told him which way to go. Shortly after they arrived outside of the Perea residence, Aguero allegedly stepped out of the car. Cops say Herrera told them it wasn't long before Aguero ran back to the car and told Herrera to take off.
Velasquez gave police a similar story and shortly after that, police filed charges against Aguero for murder, conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with evidence.
Police Say Aguero Is No Stranger To Crime
During the investigation, police say they learned that Aguero is likely to have stolen the identity of one of his old prison buddies and was using the person's information in several states. Not only that, Aguero has other aliases inlcuding Antonio Pablo Lopez, Manuel Aguero-Alarcon, Martin Castillo-Porras and Antonio P. Lopez.
Police say Aguero could be in a number of places including New Mexico and Mexico.
Thoughts? I added this case to the site today since I realized I had been slacking off with adding cases, especially the short-profile AMW cases I wanted to bring attention to with AMW.COM no longer existing. I'd like to know what the motive was. Mistaken identity or mistaken accusation is my best guess. In any case, I agree with Aguero being in Mexico or travelling back and forth to New Mexico.
UPDATE: As of July 21st, 2018, Aguero still has a felony warrant for homicide according to Bernalillo County's online warrants search: app.bernco.gov/warrants/Warrant.aspx
