Authorities in California are on the hunt for an "armed and dangerous" fire battalion chief suspected of stabbing his live-in girlfriend to death. Police say that Orville “Moe” Fleming could be hiding in wilderness areas of the Sierra Mountains, Santa Cruz Mountains and the Yosemite Valley. Fleming "has keys to fire gates, trails and Cal-Fire facilities throughout the state, in his possession," according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff's department added that Fleming "is known to have a .45 cal pistol and a .25 cal pistol that are unaccounted for." On Wednesday, officials released four photographs of the 55-year-old suspect, who is accused of killing 26-year-old Sarah Douglas at their home on May 1. "She was murdered," the victim's sister, Stephanie Douglas, told KFSN. "She was stabbed over twenty times. She was strangled with a sheet." Fleming is believed to have fled the area in an unknown vehicle, possibly with a personal acquaintance or an escort. According to the Sacramento Bee: Investigators have learned that Fleming had contact with many escorts he met through the website MyRedbook, an online hook-up site. Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said there are indications that Douglas had worked as an escort and that is how she met Fleming two years ago. In an interview with KXTV, Fleming's estranged wife, Meagan Fleming, claimed that her husband and other local firemen were recorded having sex with prostitutes at a fire academy. Fleming worked 24 years with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal-Fire, according the NBC News. Fleming is described as six feet one inches tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on Orville Fleming's whereabouts is asked to call the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department at (916) 874-TIPS (8477). www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/08/orville-moe-fleming_n_5289083.htmlwww.cbsnews.com/news/murder-suspect-may-have-used-escort-service-to-flee-police/www.cbsnews.com/news/murder-suspect-may-have-used-escort-service-to-flee-police/abclocal.go.com/kfsn/story?section=news/local&id=9528567

I have to admit this latest breaking news case might be the most bizarre non-AMW related case we've ever added to this forum. I've heard of many things but alleged "Murderous prostitute-loving fire chief" is a new one even for me. Add Fleming's estranged wife's claims that other co-workers had sex on their fire trucks with prostitutes (according to her, Douglas showed a tape of activities to Fleming's wife and said she would go public if he didn't pay) and it makes this story even crazier regardless of whether those claims are true or not. But it should be stressed regardless of who Sarah Douglas was, she didn't deserve to be brutally murdered.
Obviously, it's not surprising a story like this has become national news. I'm also adding Fleming to the site today since I'm concerned that it's said he has multiple guns as well as keys to numerous Cal Fire facilities throughout the state.

If the claims of Fleming and other fireman having sex with prostitutes are true, it wouldn't surprise me if some employees of Cal-Fire or local firemen may be assisting Fleming while he's a fugitive. I must agree, this is probably the most bizarre non-amw fugitive case ever to make it to this forum.

It seems like authorities think Fleming is essentially the same mountain region where Shane Miller is hiding (I don't know if the locations correlate but both are believed to be in mountain regions in Northern California). As we've seen with Miller, it seems unfortunately a very vast and good place to hide. Add Fleming's experience as a fire chief and anyone else who could possibly be helping him and this will take the maximum effort to find him. But hopefully he will be.

Update: Officials say they are looking to distribute Fleming's photo in Mexico and Canada in case he fled to either of those locations. This is also drawing some parallels to the Chris Dorner case in which although not as well-covered involves someone in a position of trust hiding from authorities possibly in the California mountains: www.trust.org/item/20140516183719-41c7k
