I follow one rule when it comes to adding breaking news fugitives to the Non-AMW fugitives section. If the fugitive is wanted for the death of a child, it is almost a certainty they will automatically be added to the site. No matter how I found them when researching stories for this site, be it a local or national news story, they are the worst of the worst. And so, the spotlight is now on 23-year old Everett Lamont Graves. On Saturday, January 4th, 2014, 9-year old Jaden Sharpe and his mother, 31-year old Lakeisha Holloway, were inside Holloway's Gold SUV that was parked in her driveway in Durham, North Carolina. According to news reports, a man, now believed to be Graves, randomly walked up to the car, shot Holloway in the face, looked in the back seat, and then shot Jaden. Holloway was bringing three kids to a sleepover who were also in the car according to her aunt. Despite getting shot, she was able to drive a few blocks away and get help. Holloway survived, but tragically, Jaden didn't and was taken off life support the following Thursday. Hundreds of friends, family, community members, and mourners attended Jaden's funeral a few weeks later. Earlier tonight, Durham police charged Everett Graves with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. The shooting does not appear to have been random, police said, but they provided no motive or additional details about the case. Graves previously spent nearly six years in North Carolina prison for armed robbery and, according to the state offender database, was released in May 2013. Anyone with information on Graves' whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200 or the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, extension 29336. abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/local&id=9388607www.wral.com/durham-police-seek-suspect-in-9-year-old-s-shooting-death/13319860/www.heraldsun.com/news/showcase/x402899287/Man-sought-in-fatal-shooting-of-Durham-child

Also, when it comes to fugitives such as this guy, I like to emphasize what the case is about. "A third-grader at W.G. Pearson Magnet Elementary School in Durham, Jaeden was described by family members as a good kid who made good grades and who was loved by everyone. In the days prior to his death, he had started with his brother a T-shirt line – something the family says it plans to continue as a way to help inspire others. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will benefit a scholarship fund established in Jaeden's memory." Why someone would willingly shoot a 9-year old boy, let alone someone as beloved as Jaden, is something I will never understand, regardless of how the search for Graves ends.

I'm very curious as to the motive behind this case. Graves needs to be off the streets as soon as possible.

My first thought was "vengeful ex-boyfriend" when I first read about this. But according to her aunt in the first article, Holloway referred to the shooter as a "random" guy. So this complicates things as it indicates she did not recognize her attacker. (I assume it is also possible Holloway couldn't think straight first because of the trauma and perhaps later on finally realized who he was after thinking about it, but I hate making an assumption like that. Right now no motive is known, but police think Graves did it.)
I really hope more media attention is brought to the case. This was basically something I deemed a "breaking news" case because of how horrific the crime was. But right now it only seems to be news in North Carolina and not on a national level just yet.

P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Graves is the first Non-AMW fugitive profiled this year to be captured alive!
