The U.S. Marshals Service today announced the addition of alleged murderer Shane Franklin Miller to the 15 Most Wanted fugitives list. He is wanted by the Shasta County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) for three counts of murder, as a primary suspect in the deaths of his wife and two daughters. He also is wanted by federal marshals in the Eastern District of California for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. “The U.S. Marshals Service reserves placement on our 15 Most Wanted for those suspected of heinous crimes such as the ones Miller is accused of committing,” said U.S. Marshals Service Director Stacia A. Hylton. “Our deputies will use all of our available resources with our federal and local law enforcement partners to bring this suspect to justice.” On April 20, the SCSO deputies responded to a domestic dispute involving Miller and his wife Sandra at their residence in Shingletown, Calif. During the dispute, Sandra left the residence with the assistance of SCSO deputies and drove to Humboldt County, Calif. Later that day, Miller traveled to Humboldt County, located his wife at a motel and returned her to the residence. On May 7, the SCSO dispatch received a 911 call from the Miller residence. During that call, the dispatcher heard a female sobbing and several loud banging sounds over the phone. SCSO deputies immediately responded to the location where they discovered the lifeless bodies of Miller’s five-year-old and eight-year-old daughters, and his wife. Investigators determined that the deaths were caused by gunshot wounds. Miller is a 45-year-old white male with a criminal history which includes arrests for possession of a firearm, ammunition, cultivation of marijuana, resisting an officer and hit and run causing death or injury. In 2007, Miller was released from federal custody after serving a 46-month sentence for possession of a machine gun and marijuana cultivation. He poses an extreme threat to the community and should be considered armed and dangerous. Admin update: Sheriff Tom Bosenko of Humboldt County has confirmed a body found in Petrolia, California is that of fugitive Shane Miller.www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/13/shane-franklin-miller-manhunt_n_3268993.htmlwww.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-murder-suspects-dog-found-20130515,0,4189807.story www.northcoastjournal.com/Blogthing/archives/2013/05/14/manhunt-continues-for-shasta-county-triple-homicide-suspectwww.usmarshals.gov/investigations/most_wanted/miller/miller.htm

What makes this manhunt more difficult is that Northern California is mostly very rural, so there's alot of places where Miller could hide. If he can hide out somewhere, then this could become another Christopher Dorner situation. But without a vehicle, him being mobile would be rather difficult (although the same is often said regarding Robert Fisher). I will stress that if Miller can somehow stay on the run until the end of the year, he would be the first white #1 fugitive on my list since Marjan Rroku in #2006.

It's hard enough to catch one man in the woods- a needle in a haystack- but Miller is familiar with the area as well. I just hope if he did kill himself they find the body quickly- as opposed to Robert Fisher- where if Fisher did kill himself the body may be long decayed and impossible to find.

It explains that Miller may be hiding out in an area where he grew up that contains stashed food, money and weapons. Some local residents reportedly don't know whether to believe as to if Miller is alive or dead.

If he did kill himself, I hope his body is found before it decays. If he's using his knowledge of his old stomping grounds, I hope he slips up and makes a crucial mistake soon. Even Eric Rudolph couldn't hide in the woods without getting caught eventually.

Update: Shane Miller has been added to the US Marshals 15 Most Wanted List. Obviously, an excellent choice.

With the lack of recent articles I feared that authorities had given up seriously looking for this guy. I find it interesting that most family killers who are added to federal Most Wanted lists are added in the days or weeks after the crime, yet it took two months for Miller to be added. Then again it took a year for the FBI to add Robert Fisher. We can all safely say however that Miller is the worst fugitive on the USMS 15 MW List right now.

I know it's easy for me to say it now and you'll have to take my word for it but I honestly thought he had a shot at the USMS top 15 list, since articles stated the Marshals were searching for him and the FBI's list already has Robert Fisher.

Part of me wonders if tips placed him there but U.S. authorities don't want to reveal that yet. As you said, it's a touristy area, so hopefully someone like him would still stand out if he's actually hiding out there.

Wow this is pretty similar to Robert Fisher, he's probably dead.

I also have that inkling and despite the US Marshals adding Beacher Hackney when he was already dead I have no problem with this addition for three reasons:
1. Robert Fisher is on the FBI's top 10 list, so at least this is a different list should he be deceased.
2. Sort of like a 1a), but with 15 spots on this list, the US Marshals can afford it more than the FBI, if one or two of their slots happen to be someone who is deceased. The FBI, with only 10 spots, has limited space and are in a bit more of a dilemma if one or more guys on their list is deceased. The Marshals can afford to take a chance and add more people who are possibly deceased. If he winds up dead, I don't view it as repeating the Hackney "mistake" (some would call it that but I disagree), but just adding him to be on the safe side.
3. Sort of like a 2a) The crime he is accused of is so horrible, he deserves to be on the list until we find out what happened. Despite my logic telling me otherwise, we can't assume a family killer is dead until we know for sure. This is too sickening a crime to not take that off-chance if it turns out he's still alive.

I do agree with you Scumhunter that they should find out what happened to someone responsible for this brutal of crime, I am however pretty confident this guy and Robert Fisher are both dead. It would be nice for someone to locate either of their bones to put a rest to the cases

Found this article that states Shane Miller may have been spotted in a neighborhood called Fort Jones in California. lostcoastoutpost.com/2013/sep/27/shane-miller-spotted-shasta-county/I'm actually changing my tune and starting to believe he's still alive. Regardless of if those sightings were legit or not, it seems the Marshals are getting good leads on him. If we didn't hear about any activity, then I'd be more inclined to think he committed suicide. He's also way too familiar with Northern California and the Northwest.
