On June 12, 2011, gang members Lucio Rivera-Fernandez and Ivan Izazaga spotted a car at a Yakima, Washington Taco Bell. They believed that it contained a man whom Ivan had a fight with moments earlier over a girl. Lucio shot at the car, killing 24-year old Yecenia Guerrero who was an elementary school teaching aide. Lucio is believed to have fled to Arizona or Mexico while Ivan was arrested. Ivan was sentenced to 13 years for his involvement in the murder of Yecenia.

Thoughts? This once again shows that innocent hard-working people can be the victims of mistaken identity gang-violence. What is the most tragic is that Ivan identified Yecenia to be killed, yet they were actually cousins. During sentencing, Ivan refused to take responsibility for the fact that he was willing to aide fellow gang members in a shooting and felt he didn't deserve to serve any jail time. It usually doesn't matter who exactly pulled the trigger on the gun, everyone who knowingly participates in a violent crime can be convicted of the offense.
Based on online research, our advice for anyone with information on the whereabouts of Lucio Rivera-Hernandez is to contact Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 800-248-9980, or go to www.crimestoppersyakco.org/contactus.aspx
