Child Prodigy Cut Down In Prime
In his short life, 12-year-old Eric Brown had already accomplished a lot. He'd written two comic books and was working hard on his third. He was a straight "A" student who spoke three languages -- Japanese, Spanish, and English. And not only did he excel academically, but he strived for excellence in everything he did. As a beginning violinist, he wanted to learn as much as he could about the instrument, and yearned to compose music. He planned to spend his next summer at a music camp, practicing the violin. But Eric never made it there.
On May 28, 2005, Eric was on his way home after a night-time bike ride around the neighborhood, when a gray Nissan pick-up truck came down the 45 mile-per-hour road, swerving erratically. Witnesses in a car traveling behind the truck watched in horror as the truck slammed into Eric on his bike, then took off without even the slightest hesitation. Eric Brown, a little boy with a bright future, was killed.
Illegal Aliens Wanted For Questioning
Cops didn't know who had killed Eric, but they were determined to find out. The next day, investigators got a big break in the investigation when they recovered the truck on a dead-end street just four miles from the hit-and-run scene.
Around midnight on the night of the accident, the registered truck owner called officals to report the truck stolen. But later, the owner admitted he was lying -- and revealed that the truck hadn't been stolen at all. He was apparently trying to protect two men he says were using the truck. Cops say the men are Graciano Dejesus Lopez and Pedro Rodriguez, illegal aliens with no driver's licenses.
Now the police knew that they were getting somewhere. When they ran Lopez and Rodriguez's records, they found Lopez had a long criminal record and was in violation of his probation. Warrants for both men's arrests have been issued -- and cops want to track them down for questioning in the hit-and-run murder of young Eric Brown.
Thoughts? The above was the AMW archived description of this case. Lopez and Rodriguez were aired on the July 22nd, 2006 and January 6th, 2007 episodes of America's Most Wanted.
I was able to confirm Graciano Dejesus Lopez as still wanted. Pedro Rodriguez I have no idea since it's such a common name.
And another note- a lot of stuff online about this case is from white supremacist sites bashing Lopez and Rodriguez for being Mexicans and illegals. These men need to be caught because they killed a 12-year old boy. I absolutely agree there is a problem with illegal immigrants committing crimes, however, not every immigrant here is a criminal. These two just happen to be ones.
Unfortunately, those grainy photos are all we have to work with.
