Luis E. Morquecho was aired twice on America's Most Wanted- September 30th, 2006, and August 4th, 2007. As far as I know, he is still at large. Below is the archive description of this fugitive case:
From One Crime To Another
In August, 2004, Luis E. Morquecho was charged with kidnapping for allegedly abducting a woman. Morquecho pled not guilty and was sent to a corrections facility in Grand Island, Neb. to wait for his trial date. But eight months later, cops say Morquecho interrupted the normal course of justice.
On April 15, 2005 -three days before his trial- police say Morquecho, with the help of another inmate, overpowered an officer, climbed to the jail's roof, jumped to the ground and fled.
Cops: Fugitive Has Military Background
Cops say Morquecho is an illegal immigrant from Ecuador. But not only that, they say he served in the Ecuadorian military and was even assigned to the military's special forces branch. Cops are asking people to be careful because they believe Morquecho is a violent person who may be familiar with different types of weapons.
Cops say Morquecho may still be in Nebraska. But they also say that Morquecho told an inmate that if he were to escape from jail, he would go to New York City where he would be able to blend in with people from Latin America or with Ecuadorians.
Thoughts? Morquecho does have ties to New York City and was living there with his girlfriend before he was arrested. However, part of me wonders if the heat from the AMW airings caused him to flee the country. In addition, I can't tell you how many times a criminal has told someone in jail or elsewhere they were going to flee to a certain location just to throw everyone off. Charles Mozdir claimed he was going to flee to Mexico or Japan and wound up in New York City. (Here of course would be a bit of a reverse situation). In any case, Morquecho would blend in both here and abroad. That's where forum readers help comes in to help narrow down the search.
This case was once on the FBI's website, however, I no longer see it. So I put Nebraska Crime Stoppers as the number to call for tips. It might be worth calling the FBI also if you have information on this case as well. Sometimes even if the FBI takes the case off their main website, they still handle it.
