Vehicular homicide suspect Javier Trevino was aired on the September 13th, 2008 episode of America's Most Wanted as a 15 seconds of shame case. Although the archive no longer works, I was able to find an article about that then upcoming airing that pretty well explains the case:
More than two years after a 20-year-old Ocoee woman's death, investigators are seeking the help of America's Most Wanted.
Heather Mobley was driving alone from her family's home in her Ford Escort on July 29, 2006, when she was hit head-on and killed by a 2004 black Hummer and killed. The driver and passengers of the Hummer abandoned the car at the scene.
Days later, the passengers came forward and said Javier Trevino was driving the Hummer. On Aug. 1, 2006, Trevino turned himself in but was released on $25,000 bond and required to wear an ankle monitor. Trevino cut off the monitor and fled in May 2007.
He could be in Texas or Mexico.
Mobley's case will be featured Saturday in the show's "15 Seconds of Shame" segment. Heather's mother, Rita, hopes it generates a lead.
"He needs to do the right thing and turn himself in," Mobley said. "I just want to know why? Why did he leave her like that?"
Sedg Tourison , a staff producer for the show, said that though Heather Mobley's segment will not be long, it should still generate tips.
"These smaller spots work out a lot," Tourison said, adding that the show has helped capture 1,030 fugitives in about 950 episodes.
Those odds give Mobley hope that Trevino will stand trial for her daughter's death. Then, Mobley thinks, the healing process will begin.
"I still have her cell phone so I can still hear her voice -- hear her message," Mobley said.
Thoughts? This is yet another Florida vehicular homicide case- although it doesn't seem like DUI was suspected (or he just wasn't charged.) I did notice that the same way Washington state has some terrible cases because they actually have a tv show called Washington's Most Wanted that brings attention to them unlike other states that don't have a Most Wanted program, part of the reason we have so many of these cases in Florida is the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) actually does a great job at keeping the public aware of them, and keeps a most wanted list unlike other states. Still, I feel something is wrong in parts of Florida, be it the highway infrastructure or something else, that we have so many of these cases.
However, Trevino has no excuse for not taking responsibility for his actions. And he still needs to be caught.
