Surveillance Camera Catches Kidnapping On Tape
The scene caught by surveillance cameras at a mall in Lakeland, Florida on July 12, 2004, looks innocent enough. Four young men are walking through a store with a young woman. One of the men holds the woman's hand. Another stops to look at some merchandise. But police say wha the tape actually shows is a kidnapping in progress.
Cops say the four men lured their victim -- a 17-year-old mentally-handicapped woman -- out of the mall. Then, they say, the men raped her, and held her captive for more than 12 hours.
The next day on July 13, police found the victim wandering along a road near a gas station in Bowling Green, Florida -- more than 50 miles from where she'd been abducted.
Authorities were able to arrest two of the men, but the remaining two are still on the loose. Police have identified them as Noe Miranda-Valdez and Jose Macedo-Avellaneda.
Thoughts? This case was aired on the July 31st, 2004 episode of America's Most Wanted. Not only is it disgusting, but I am also disgusted that Miranda-Valdez and Macedo-Avellaneda are still on the run according to Florida's wanted persons search website results. New Mexico was listed as a possible location for both suspects and another good clue is Macedo-Avellaneda also goes by the nickname "Chewy." I've linked their AMW profiles below for more information.
