It has been over a decade and still no answers in the unsolved Ukiah, California murders of Charles Mitchell and his son Nolan. I don't believe the case was aired on AMW on tv, but it was on their website and AMW radio.
On November 1, 2004, Charles Mitchell and his son, Noland, were found dead. Noland was shot to death in his bed, and police discovered Charles' body by the side of the house. According to one newspaper article, Charles had been bludgeoned to death. (Reports also indicate that Nolan was shot in his sleep and seemed unaware of his father's brutal murder).
Charles and Noland Mitchell were hardworking, well-respected members of the community. Charles was a retired lumber mill worker who planned to become active in the new Coyote Valley tribal government, and Noland, a Ukiah High School and Mendocino College graduate, was working at the Sho-Ka-Wah Casino in Hopland.
Mitchell had been a candidate for a seat on the Coyote Valley Tribal Council. There was talk at the time that his 2004 murder was related to the intense tribal political infighting prevalent at the time.
Thoughts? Unfortunately there is not a lot of information online about this tragic case, but in my opinion, I think it probably had something to do with the political infighting. The fact that Charles was killed so brutally but his son was simply shot to death indicates to me that this was personal towards Charles specifically. Perhaps the son would know who the killer was or they simply wanted to leave no witnesses. What I do know is over a decade is way too long to wait for justice, so please call the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office if you have any information on this case.
