LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)–Police in Lancaster County are continuing to search for a man charged with murder after his wife was found deceased on Monday, February 5.
According to Northern Lancaster County Regional Police, Matthew Harrison, 48, is wanted for murder after his wife Jami Harrison, 49, was found dead at the 200 block of Mount Hope Road.
Police say that they got a report of a woman who appeared to have suffered a cardiac event at 4:12 p.m. When they arrived, police said they found Jami Harrison dead and evidence at the scene of a suspicious death.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s office said on Wednesday that Jami’s cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation and suffocation. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Matthew Harrison is facing charges for first and second degree murder and felony strangulation.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, police have since learned that the suspect had been staying at a hotel in Manheim and checked out of on Monday, Feb 5 by 1:40 p.m.
The office reports that text messages from the victim’s phone from Feb. 2 and Feb. 4 showed the suspect insulting her and saying he needed to grab things from the home on February 5.
Text messages extracted from the suspect’s phone on Feb. 7 also include him telling a coworker, “I won’t be back” and “the demon in me broke free” as well as telling a family member, “I’ve been having murder on my brain” on Feb. 5, 2024, according to the office.
Harrison is described by police to be a dangerous person. He is 5’7” tall, weighs about 170 pounds, and has hazel eyes. Harrison is believed to be driving a black, 2017 K1500, 4-door, Chevy Silverado pick-up truck bearing PA registration ZND7298.
Police say Harrison may have ties to areas in Lancaster and York.
The homicide case is still under investigation and police are working with the District Attorney’s Office.
