TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Police Department said Thursday that is searching for two teen fugitives who cut off their electronic monitoring devices from a previous armed robbery and are now suspects in the murder of a pot shop employee last weekend.
A police spokesperson said Montrell D. Hatfield, 16, and Marshon Jones, 15, are considered armed and dangerous and are the prime suspects in the fatal shooting last Saturday night at the World of Weed, located in the 3200 block of Portland Ave. E.
KOMO News does not generally identify juveniles accused of crimes but since they are considered dangerous murder suspects who are on the run, the station is identifying the pair with the consent of Tacoma police.
Police said the armed suspects entered the Tacoma marijuana shop after 10 p.m. last weekend.
It was not immediately clear what led up to the fatal shooting but an employee, identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office as Jordan Brown, 29, of Gig Harbor, was slain during the hold up.
Hatfield and Jones have also been charged in a violent and brazen daylight pawn shop robbery in Federal Way in which customers and workers were pistol whipped and assaulted during the incident.
After that robbery, the two were ordered to wear electronic monitoring systems but they have both cut the devices off and have been on the run ever since, law enforcement authorities told KOMO News.
According to King County Superior Court officials, Judge Averil Rothrock, chief of the Juvenile Court, ordered the teen suspects to wear electronic home monitoring along with other conditions, including adult supervision in their homes.
Officials said at their second appearance arraignment a few days later, Judge Nelson Lee continued their release on electronic home detention consistent with Rothrock’s prior order at their first appearance, because under local rules, Lee did not have the authority to change the first appearance judge’s ruling about electronic home detention.
According to court documents, Hatfield has a distinctive limp from having a right prosthetic leg. Police said the suspect description has come up before.
Police said anyone with information about their whereabouts should call 911 or Crimestoppers and not approach them because they are believed to be dangerous and violent.

Thoughts? Based on online articles, Hatfield and Jones were still at large at least as of March 25th, 2022. This site is also usually apprehensive about profiling juvenile suspects, but much like the Abel Elias Acosta (who is still at large) case earlier in the year, this is one where the public needs to be aware because of the alleged violence and multiple incidents that have already happened where they were accused.
UPDATE from site admin: Marshon Jones captured on April 11th, 2022. Montrell Hatfield still at large as of April 11th, 2022.
