From the Kirksville Daily Express (kirksvilledailyexpress.com):
A Kirksville man who is a registered sex offender is wanted by police after being charged with statutory rape and sodomy in Adair County Court.
Joshua Pearson, 39, received those charges on Thursday after KPD was notified of a sexual encounter he had with an 11-year-old girl. He previously pled guilty to a sex crime in Harrison County in 2011.
He was heard saying he wasn’t going back to prison and mentioned going south to Mexico. Kirksville police have been unable to contact him. Pearson was supposed to register as a sex offender in Adair County on Aug. 25 but never showed up.
A KPD release describes him as a white male, 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last known to be driving a black GMC Sierra truck with some rust around the passenger side rear wheel well.
According to court records, a woman went to the Kirksville Police Department building on Aug. 17, saying she had a recording of sexual activity between Pearson and her daughter, who is 11.
The woman, who had a previous romantic relationship with Pearson, said she had a strange feeling between Pearson and her daughter, so she set up a cell phone in her bedroom to record while she was gone on Aug. 2. That recording was more than three hours long and the woman said she was only recently able to listen to it.
The recording features sexual sounds, with an older male, believed to be Pearson, telling a female what to do. At one point the female says what was happening was “hurting badly.” The man later said the girl’s name. Once the event ended, the man told the girl to go play outside.
At first, the girl was unwilling to talk to police about what happened. She did write about what happened and told officers she would give them that note. The note said it was the only time it happened and that the man told her what to do.
In a subsequent forensic interview, the child said she didn’t know what to do in the situation, so she did what the man said to do.
After the crime, Pearson spoke about going to Mexico and on Aug. 20 he dropped off belongings with his son in Columbia, along with a goodbye note. Kirksville police have been unable to find Pearson since the incident was reported on Aug. 17.

Thoughts? As of this posting date (August 28th, 2021), a search of Missouri's online criminal court records shows still no docket entries since a warrant was issued for Pearson on August 26th, 2021. I really don't know what's going on with the state of Missouri lately considering the unusual amount of horrible cases we've seen this week.
