A man who became America's Most Wanted direct capture #875 in 2006 is apparently once again on the run.
On February 4th, 2006, America's Most Wanted aired the story of the manhunt for Steven Volgyi. The following was amw
com's archived description of the case:
"On July 27, 2002, officials in Broward County, Florida say Volgyi had been drinking when he and his girlfriend got in to an argument. Soon things escalated, and cops say he became physically violent. Police say he first struck her in the mouth with wooden nun-chucks, splitting her lip. Then, cops say he cut her throat with a 12-inch hunting knife. His girlfriend's injuries were minor and, fortunately, she has recovered- at least physically.
Cops then put Volgyi on probation for a year for this attack. But the very next day, authorities say he hit the road in violation of his probation, turning him into a fugitive.
In the past, Volgyi has worked as an unskilled laborer and cops say he has a history of marijuana use. "
Two days aftee Volgyi's airing, the Broward Sheriff's Office Fugitive Team received a tip placing Volgyi in Pompano Beach, Florida, working as a driver for a moving company. The next day, investigators received another tip. The caller was even more specific, telling detectives that Volgyi was currently driving a moving truck and would return the vehicle to work around 4:00 p.m. Volgyi didn't return until 5:30 p.m., but the police were waiting waiting and arrested him.
According to our forum members' research of Florida Department of Corrections website and Broward County online court records, Volgyi was to serve five years but was released in 2009.
Volgyi wouldn't stay out of trouble for long. On Christmas Eve 2014, Volgyi hit a cyclist in Broward County Florida and kept on going. He would serve over a year for hit and run with injury and obstruction before being released in 2016 with ten ueats of probation to follow.
Now thanks to our forum members' research, we have learned Volgyi allegedly violated his probation and Florida Department of Law Enforcement's public access wanted persons search lists Volgyi as having a warrant since June 6th, 2019: pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/person/WantedPersons.jsf
Thoughts? Thank you so much to forum member ninja108 for bringing this to my attention and hopefully Volgyi's second time on the run won't last as long as his first!
