Note: The following information was obtained through a weekly case spotlight provided by the non-profit group, Project: Cold Case.
On April 26, 1989, the horrifically mutilated and nude body of Ronnie Johnson was found in Missouri's Mark Twain National Forest. Ronnie had been previously reported missing from a truck stop. The sheer mutilation of numerous body parts made identifying Ronnie's body extremely difficult. The identification was made possible through a "sunshine" tattoo dedicated to his daughter, Rochelle.
An autopsy proved that Ronnie was shot to death execution style. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office would handle the case as the scene where Ronnie was found was on the country line between two separate departments. It is believed that Ronnie's murder occurred elsewhere however.
Rochelle stated to Project: Cold Case that she believes there was little in the way of an investigation done into her father's murder due to his supposed history of drug-related habits.
Project: Cold Case will update their spotlight if they get a response from local law enforcement.
Based on media publications, it is advised to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 417-469-3121 if you have any information on Ronnie Johnson's unsolved murder.

Thoughts? As of today, October 29, 2019, Ronnie Johnson's horrific murder is still unsolved based on yesterday's case spotlight through Project: Cold Case.
Unfortunately the supposed lack of interest in solving Ronnie's murder due to the alleged drug-related habits seems to keep coming up as a problem in cases like this. This is despite Ronnie having two young children at the time of the murder. Just because someone may be involved in illegal activity, does not give the justification to A): murder them and B): not investigate their case afterwards.
Also let me explain the Project: Cold Case Spotlights. That "Faces of Unsolved Homicides" memorial wall I keep talking about on their website has the end goal of publicizing one of those cases per week in an official article with details and reaction from the family. The reason that is so important is because of the term that PCC recently coined called "Internet Silence". The issue is that murders that occurred before the widespread use of the internet never or barely make it onto google searches at times. We have seen this with fugitive cases as well, especially ones that I only found through Newspapers.com.
