Although the letter was inconclusive, in my opinion, this does sort of fit the narrative since a man claiming to be John Anglin contacted the Marshals office after the escape.
I'd be wrong about Frank Morris in that he did survive but right about everything else lol.

I attended "Escape from Alcatraz" at CrimeCon which was presented by the aforementioned retired U.S. Marshal Art Roderick. Much to my and even his shock, it turned out that third body that washed ashore after the escape was NOT Frank Morris. He says they are in the process of completing the Brazil lead. His main theory is still that all three escapees never made it out, which surprises me since on the History channel special he seemed to lead towards thinking it was them.
Also I spoke to Art Roderick (never thought I'd say that on this forum), and he said the letter from the man claiming to be John Anglin turned out to be another hoax.
Sounds exciting that perhaps we may get a definitive answer on whether the Marshals think it is the Anglin brothers in the photo soon though.
