Inspired by a topic I just created
Over the years, AMW has tried many different ways to help solve cases. Some of them have worked, others not so much. One way AMW would try to bring attention to a case was by bringing in a celebrity who had some sort of connection to the case (mostly a tenuous connection, but still).
Here's a couple examples of AMW using celebrity power in a case:
Jeffrey Durham - In the late 90s, AMW featured bank robber Jeffrey Durham on the show several times. Durham was very cocky, and at one point even appeared on "The Jerry Springer Show" bragging about his exploits. Once Jerry Springer found out Durham was an actual bank robber, he teamed up with AMW to help find the fugitive. Durham was eventually captured thanks to the show.
Unknown Scott White Killer - I already talked about this in another topic, but former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar appeared on AMW in 2006 to help solve the murder of Scott White. The victim had been a huge Bernie Kosar fan, and even had a football-themed wedding. The case is still unsolved.
Unknown Chanel Petro-Nixon Killer - A young girl was killed and her body stuffed in a trash bag in Brooklyn. AMW teamed up with The Rev. Al Sharpton to help bring publicity to this case, and featured him walking all around the borough talking to people and trying to get someone to come forward. I remember when this case was reaired in July 2007, a ton of people got really bent out of shape about it.
Unknown Shannon Paulk Killer and Unknown Raven Jeffries Killer - Probably the most famous example of a celebrity teaming up with AMW; NCIS actor Pauley Perrette approached AMW after seeing these two unrelated cases profiled in March 2007 and deciding that she wanted to do something to help.
Colleen Perris - And here's easily the most unusual instance of a celebrity helping out AMW; Joe Matthews conducted an in-depth investigation into the disappearance of 18-year-old Colleen Perris, who had apparently been living a double-life as a good teenager and a partier. One tip said she might have become a porn actress, so Matthews tracked down adult film actor Ron Jeremy to see what he knew about her. Jeremy, who was legitimately concerned about Colleen, said he didn't recognize her, but told Matthews he would ask around.
Those are some of the more obvious instances of celebrities helping out, but can anybody think of other instances?
