Authorities are searching for Brooke Henson, who went missing in 1999. Her case was aired in 2007.
Brooke Henson lived with her family in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. On Jul 4, 1999, her parents returned from a concert and saw her on their porch. She left the house a 2:30 AM after a verbal dispute with her boyfriend, Shaun Shirley. She left a note for her boyfriend and left for a store to purchase cigarettes, she was never seen again. Shaun and his friends have been uncooperative with investigators, and most of the people in Henson's life were involved in criminal activity. Investigators have a suspect in this case, but do not have enough evidence to charge him.
The case took a very strange turn when a woman named Esther Reed enrolled for courses at Columbia University, using Henson's name, date of birth and social security number. She applied for a job and her employer looked up Brooke Henson and saw that the name belonged to the missing woman. Esther claimed that she was Brooke Henson and had left home voluntarily. She fled after a DNA test was arranged. AMW profiled her in 2007 and was arrested in Illinois in 2008, making her Capture #974. She was sentenced and released in 2011 (according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website). Investigators determined that she had nothing to do with Brooke Henson's disappearance.
Thoughts? It seems like authorities may know what happened to Brooke, but there's not enough evidence to bring anyone to trial. Also out of all the identities you can steal, why would you steal an identity of a missing person? You just do a google search and chances are, you'll figure out the history behind the false identity.
