73-year old Eugene Palmer (77 years old as of current edit) is wanted for the alleged murder of his daughter-in-law, 39-year old Tammy Palmer in Upstate New York. Palmer allegedly shot and killed Tammy, who was estranged from his son, in a domestic dispute.
What likely set Eugene Palmer off and led to Tammy Palmer being killed, police said, was an August court order of protection she obtained banning her husband from his father’s property. Tammy Palmer then continued to live at the house — next door to her father-in-law — with her two children, ages 13 and 16 (Palmer's grandchildren).
Since then, there has been a lot of controversy as to whether or not Palmer is even alive anymore, as searches have continued in the vast wooded area near his house.
Palmer is a diabetic who suffered a heart attack in 2011. Police are unsure if he had his medication with him. They also believe he left armed with a shotgun and rifle because the weapons were found missing from his home.
Some have described Palmer as an avid outdoors man who could survive in the woods. Others mention no one reported seen living in Harriman State Park, and Palmer's medical condition making it likely he succumbed to the elements.
In late November, remains were found in Harriman State Park. But it turned out the remains were of an animal and not Palmer.
So for now the mystery remains. Did Palmer die in the woods? Is he still living in the woods? Or did he escape to land somewhere else?
