From deseretnews.com:
SALT LAKE CITY — A man who has already served prison time in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in 2008 now faces charges of manufacturing fake documents such as Social Security cards, drivers' licenses and green cards, according to charging documents.
Last month, Alexis Ivan Rodriguez, 26, of Midvale, was charged in 3rd District Court with eight counts of producing a false identification document, a second-degree felony, and seven counts of possessing a forgery device, a third-degree felony.
A warrant was issued for Rodriguez's arrest June 26 after he bailed out of jail and failed to show up for his initial court hearing, according to court records. As of Wednesday, police were still looking for him.
Rodriguez was also charged Wednesday in Midvale Justice Court with driving 105 mph while intoxicated in April, according to court records.
On Jan. 6, 2008, Diego Mendoza, 16, was shot and killed outside Sears, 754 S. State.
Rodriguez, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was tried and convicted in adult court and sentenced to one to 15 years in prison for attempted murder, a second-degree felony, for his part in the killing. He originally was charged with murder, a first-degree felony, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge as part of a plea bargain.
Rodriguez was ordered to serve that sentence consecutive to another one-to-15-year sentence for an attempted aggravated robbery conviction in a separate case.
Rodriquez was released on parole in July 2016.
On June 6, the Utah Attorney General Office's SECURE Strike Force served a search warrant at Rodriguez's Midvale residence. During the investigation, officials asked how long he had been producing fake documents, according to the charges.
"Rodriguez replied that he had been manufacturing or involved in manufacturing fraudulent documents for his entire life but recently had begun again five months ago after being released from prison. Rodriguez stated that he makes all types of fraudulent cards to include Social Security cards, permanent residence cards, drivers' licenses and others," according to charging documents.
Rodriguez told detectives he charges between $60 and $150 for a fake Social Security or permanent residence cards, charges state.
Investigators seized five fake Social Security cards, five permanent resident (cards), "numerous blank plastic cards, pieces of Social Security cards, three cellular telephones, two laptops, two printers, one thumb drive," a large quantity of shredded paper and $2,822 in cash, according to a search warrant affidavit.
