From the New Braunfels Herald Zeitung:
"About a year and a half after a New Braunfels man basically disappeared after allegedly taking a sword to three people, he reappeared recently but not in the way law enforcers tracking him necessarily would like.
Once again, now-39-year-old Richard Earl Towne II was listed on Comal County’s Most Wanted list. Wanted for alleged attempted capital murder of more than one person, Towne was among the 10 suspects featured on the list Tuesday.
The idea is to put out more feelers in hopes of finally nabbing Towne on the alleged sword assault, said Sgt. Rick Montanez who is in charge of the Comal County Sheriff’s Office’s warrants division, which administers the Most Wanted lists.
“The case didn’t die off into a cold case (where) everybody forgets about what happened. It’s still active because he hasn’t been served the complaints,” Montanez said. “That one we put back out there to see if this guy got settled in and got comfortable thinking nobody is looking for him. Maybe we’ll get some phone calls.”
According to previous Herald-Zeitung reports containing interviews with Towne’s alleged victims, he went on Aug. 5, 2015 to a home he once shared with a woman who still lived at the residence in the 1800 block of Wald Road. He went to retrieve his property but once inside became angry, grabbed a large sword and began swinging it at people in the home.
A man and his wife said they were in the home with Towne’s ex-girlfriend, and they tried to intervene in his attack and calm him.
Allegedly, Towne hacked at them with the weapon and severely injured both, causing them to suffer debilitating injuries. Months after the attack, the couple recalled Towne swinging the sword at the man, cutting off his right pinky finger and cutting his middle and ring fingers.
They said Towne continued to cut and slash the man’s face, arm and knee until the woman intervened. Towne allegedly chopped her forehead while her husband crawled to his feet and the pair rushed out of the home with Towne following closely behind.
The male victim told the Herald-Zeitung that Towne stabbed his wife’s neck as the couple fled.
The ex-girlfriend said she was able to convince Towne to stop pursuing the couple and to flee the area because police were coming. She said she thought that was the only way to end the attack.
Authorities at the time said the United States Marshal’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force was looking for Towne, and that he was to be considered extremely dangerous."
