Alvaro Alvarado is wanted for the 1989 triple murder of his wife, sister-in-law, and his cousin. Alvarado was separated from his wife Amanda due to his abusive behavior. He was known to stalk her and even chase her through traffic. He had also been arrested for assaulting her. Because of this, Amanda went to his cousin, Otto, for support. Alvarado was jealous of their friendship and accused her of having an affair. In 1989, Alvarado tricked Amanda's sister, Gloria, into telling him where Amanda was staying. That year, Alvarado entered the apartment where she was staying, with Otto, Gloria, a friend of Otto's, and Amanda's and Alvaro's children present. A confrontation started, and ended with Alvarado fatally shooting Amanda, Gloria, and Otto. Otto's friend was able to escape, but the children supposedly witnessed the shooting. It was featured on an episode of COPS, where the officer questioned Otto as he was being taken away in an ambulence. He stated it was Alvarado who shot him, right before he died. Alvarado was profiled from 1991-2002. He has always been suspected of living in Guatamaela, working as a drug trafficker. I've always believed, however, that while he is probably living in some Mexican country, he may be making a living doing some kind of blue collar work. He had previously worked as a truck driver. After Vincent Walters was captured while working at the Cancun International Airport, I've started to wonder if some of these cold-case narcotics connected fugitives do get legitmate jobs after several years on the run. It doesn't help that no age-enhanced photo was ever done of Alvarado.
Alvarado represents an issue I have with the lack of overall fugitive warrant coverage. For missing person cases, you have non-profit organizations like The Charley Project which has an extensive coverage of missing person profiles and countless forums dedicated to those cases. As far as fugitive warrants go for serious felonies like murder, sex crimes, robbery, narco-trafficking, financial crimes, among others, the only website that's dedicated to fugitive profiles is amw.com. Considering Alvarado is wanted for such a horrific crime, I'm baffled as to why there's very little information about him on the internet

Pakman had a great analogy on the old site forum in how similar this case is to the case of Mauricio Beltran-Trejo, assaulting, stalking, chasing her through through traffic, and also in Oregon. Thankfully, Beltran-Trejo's victim survived her attack, but the circumstances are eerily similar.

I have nothing new to report but I just wanted to bring up that this August 15 will be the 25th year anniversary of Alvarado's case. Very sad that this case has appeared to have hit a brick wall in terms of investigation.

I find it really sad that this thread was my first post on this site over a year and a half ago, and there hasn't been one single update to this case. A triple murder, and there is barely anything about it on the internet. I just don't get it. They must really haven't had any leads on Alvarado since he first went on the run. Anyone here have any sort of theory as to where he is, besides the ones already discussed?

A triple murder, and there is barely anything about it on the internet. I just don't get it. They must really haven't had any leads on Alvarado since he first went on the run. Anyone here have any sort of theory as to where he is, besides the ones already discussed? You do such a great job with posting these case threads (and were the one that motivated me to add full case summaries to mine) that I wish there was more information when it came to the first case thread you did. I think there are a few things to consider. 1) A few years ago, I believe Pakman discovered an online posting of a 1995 request for Guatemala to extradite several fugitives wanted by the United States, including Alvarado. Alvarado got two AMW profiles in 1995 and wasn't aired again until his last ever profile in 2002, so AMW may have turned up the heat on him in that year because authorities could have figured out where he was. However, I do believe one of those 1995 profiles was a early John Walsh most wanted list episode (I found an early website archive from 1997, which shows Alvarado as one of the show's most wanted fugitives at the time). 2) Alvarado was believed to travel between Sinaloa, Mexico and Los Angeles, and was involved with drug trafficking. This brings up the possibility of him having ties to the Sinaloa Drug Cartel. He also had plenty of cash on him, so he may have had a high-ranking position in whether drug trafficking organization he could have been a member of. 3) I personally think he's been travelling between Mexico and Guatemala with occasional visits to the US. There is the off chance that he died somehow in the 25 years he's been on the run, as a result of his likely organized crime connections, but there's nothing to indicate that. I have no explanation as to why there's been hardly any attention on his case, unless there really haven't been that many leads. Looking at him, he could blend into a Latin American nation well and not be easily recognized. 4) Another thing is that he's worked as a truck driver. If he ever got out of the drug business, he could be driving trucks throughout Mexico and even Guatemala or the United States. It seems to me that fugitives that may be working as truckers are surprisingly difficult to locate (Ex. Elby Hars), probably because they're always on the road and never in the same place for very long.

Just wanted to add that there have been some great captures of fugitives hiding out in Guatemala recently, and cooperation between their government and the United States is improving.
If Alvaro is still believed to be hiding out there, then I think there should be another publicity effort by the FBI or Oregon authorities.

I’m genuinely amazed this case hasn’t received much more national attention beyond AMW. You’d think since Alvarado was wanted for a triple homicide, this would be on the FBI’s website, and would get more attention through other media. Plus, assuming he’s traveling between Guatemala and Mexico, any of the countries excluding Guatemala could just deport him since he isn’t a citizen in any of those countries. With Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua being sticklers on extradition, the only way I think Alvarado will be brought back is if he’s arrested in Mexico.

The FBI.gov image feeds page now shows an image of Alvaro’s age-enhanced photo. This means we will soon see a renewed publicity effort to locate and arrest Alvarado. www.fbi.gov/feeds/imagelisting

The FBI will add him to their murder section soon. It's a great addition.
