FBI confirmed he has been arrested in Tenancingo, Estado de Mexico, Mexico. This is just southwest of Mexico City. He had really burrowed into Mexico.

Yep I had a feeling they were onto him since he is the only recent fugitive (besides Caro-Quintero which is more an extradition dispute) to not get any air time on The Hunt or In Pursuit.
Great news told everyone to be patient about the somewhat recent stagnation of the list!

Btw it turned out it was Mederos’ 29th birthday yesterday and he ends up getting caught on his birthday..... I guess he gave authorities a present.

I was just about to mention this but danwind beat me to it. Not to be a killjoy on otherwise great news but as far as I can tell Richard Sanchez and Andres Mendez who are also part of this overall case are still at large. So I hope one day they face justice as well.

They indeed actually were onto him, they mentioned in articles before his capture that he was hiding somewhere between the states of Morelos and Guerrero, and well it seems they pinpointed his location to the beautiful destination of Tenancingo, Estado De Mexico, Mexico. Honestly this is one of the most beautiful captures (not only because it’s the first since March 2019, or the first one of the 2020s), but because it happened in a quiet little town that would’ve never have occurred to me Mederos would be captured in..... heck Luis Mendez was captured in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, even though I personally speculated he could’ve been hiding in the Mexican states of Jalisco or Michoacan.
Also I was thinking for awhile Jason Derek Brown would’ve been the one to fall next on the top ten list in Ohio, but the fact that it was Mederos somewhat surprises me (not as much as they were onto him)
P.S. I feel investigators were too vague and not saying in detail how they nabbed him (unless a press release will come out soon), since the statement says “Mederos was captured by Mexican authorities” maybe out of secrecy and safety of the operation they didn’t go into detail and it also could be the first capture of a Top Ten fugitive by the Mexican national guard (which replaced the federal police in 2019).

Tenancingo sounded familiar. It's where a wanted human trafficker we profiled and saw the capture of in '015, named Severiano "Negro, Gato" Martinez-Rojas allegedly came from. I for one would've never guessed how beautiful that town could be based on what media reported about the town back then.

Once again I'm happy Mederos was caught but Sanchez and Mendez need to be also for full justice as well for all the victims in the two cases involving Mederos (although I should clarify Sanchez is wanted in Camille Love's case only I believe).

Does anyone know if any photo of Villalba Mederos has been released following his capture? It’s always fun seeing how someone tried to conceal their identity on the run.
