There appears to be new age-progression photos of McLean on his U.S. Marshals Top 15 Most Wanted poster:

Okay, this is really freaky. The new age-enhanced photos of McLean made me do a double-take, because he looks like a former coworker of mine in Iowa! I know it's not him, but...wow was that eerie!

Frederick McLean is confirmed to be deceased. A neighbour in Seneca, South Carolina found the decomposing body of his neighbour who he knew as “James Fitzgerald” on Nov 6th. Fingerprint records confirm the man was actually McLean. The investigation continues as to if anyone helped McLean while on the run. www.cnn.com/2021/11/19/us/south-carolina-remains-identified/index.html

I wish I could celebrate but this means McLean got to live 16 years on the run and essentially got away with all his crimes. Between this, the Robert Vicosa manhunt ending with his children being found dead, and Kyle Rittenhouse getting acquitted (I know that is really off-topic but still), this unfortunately hasn't been a good week for justice. Hopefully in the coming weeks, we'll see some positive news about someone we've wanted to catch for a while captured alive.
The only saving grace is if there's a hell, McLean is surely burning inside it right now.

I just hope McLean suffered before he died and is burning in hell

Just wanted to add McLean is now the fourth out of the last five aired fugitives on In Pursuit to be found dead. This feels like 2014 as that's the last year I remember with so many dead or found dead fugitives.
This does open a slot on the USMS list, and give it more breathing room since the Dan Hiers slot is still in an unknown limbo.

McLean is burning in any underworld prison that may exist, and if he was as prolific as I feared, targeting 5 new victims a year on average since '980, he can't hurt any more young girls in '022 and beyond. One of my own Dirty Dozen fugitives, the 3rd ranked on my '011 year-end leftover AMW fugitives list, and the 197th fugitive placed on the Marshals' 15 Most Wanted, is accounted for once and for all. Other than the fact that he escaped any foreseeable earthly punishments, and we don't know either way if he had any painful diseases in his last years, I still think it's huge news.

No one has said it's not huge news, it obviously is. Just that it sucks he was never caught alive and prosecuted.

I'm glad the case is solved but I hate how he never had to spend a day in jail for what he did.

Yeah I think that's the thing for me is someone like Mike Hawkins killed himself right away basically so I didn't feel the same denial of justice while McLean got to live out his life. With that being said it is a relief he can never harm anyone again.
We also don't know how McLean died though so hopefully it was painful.
