(Above photo credit: Morris County New Jersey Prosecutor's Office website) On September 18, 1986, 89-year old Lester Mickens was bludgeoned to death in his Kinnelon, New Jersey home. Someone had cut the phone line to his home right before Lester was murdered. Robbery is believed to be the motive since checks and money were missing from the home. Lester Mickens was also a veteran of both the first and second world wars along with a veteran of the Vera Cruz conflict. Based on wanted location & law enforcement websites, our advice for anyone with information regarding the murder of Lester Mickens would be to contact the Morris County Cold Case Department at 973-285-6279.

It is absolutely unacceptable that a veteran of three major historic conflicts is murdered in such a horrific way! The killer if he/she ever realized that wouldn't care of course but it is still completely horrible. Hopefully some link through either evidence at the crime scene or someone coming forward, that this scumbag can finally be identified. morriscountynj.gov/prosecutor/unsolved/archive.northjersey.com/story-archives/oct-5-1986-police-seek-leads-in-kinnelon-senior-s-murder-1.250526

The fact that not just money but checks were taken as well indicates to me whoever killed Mickens may have known him and this was a heartless betrayal.

It is someone who knew him but his house as well that killed him because he knew where to find money and checks. The fact that the phone line was cut means premedited murder.I wonder if Mr Micken's bank has ever traced the stolen checks and by who were they were used. Because normally when you present a check you have to show an ID piece and your name is printed on all the check you sign.
