(Above photo credit: westword.com) Suspect: Patrick Pete Abeyta AKA: Mark Abeyta Date of Birth: 04/20/1974 Description: Hispanic Male, 6’0” tall, 155 pounds, black hair and brown eyes Possible Locations: Patrick Abeyta has been sighted in Juarez, Mexico, Chihuahua, Mexico as well as in New Mexico. --- On the morning of April 1st, 1996 members of the Denver Fire Department responded to a house fire within a residence located near the intersection of West 1st Avenue and Xavier Street. After extinguishing the blaze, the body of a female, later identified as Grace Espinoza, was discovered. Upon closer examination by the responding Medical Examiner from the Denver Coroner’s Office, it was determined that Grace Espinoza had been stabbed to death. During the follow-up investigation by the Denver Police Department’s Homicide Unit, an individual by the name of Patrick Abeyta (described and pictured above) was identified as the suspect responsible for Grace Espinoza’s death. Currently, a warrant for Patrick Abeyta’s arrest has been issued for Investigation of First Degree Murder. Additional information from the Denver Post says that Grace had her hands bound behind her back and that she had been stabbed 40 times. Grace was also beaten and strangled. According to online articles, If you have information regarding the whereabouts of Patrick Abeyta, then contact Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
Also any news-related updates on this case can be forwarded to us at amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form--- Thoughts? Patrick Abeyta sounds like an extremely scary fugitive based on the sheer brutality of Grace Espinoza's murder. The good news is that we know that he's probably in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, where cold-case FBI Top Tenner Fidel Urbina was just captured in. That gives me hope that Patrick Abeyta will someday be in custody as well. www.denvergov.org/Portals/720/documents/MostWanted/96-740040_Patrick_Pete_Abeyta.pdfblogs.denverpost.com/coldcases/2013/04/13/denver-mother-of-four-stabbed-40-times-beaten-and-lit-on-fire/6562/3/

They say he was a neighbor so perhaps he was some sort of creep who wanted to sexually attack her but she fought back, but I stress it's me speculating.
I do agree with you cold case manhunt seem sometimes hopeless but then all of a sudden a miracle happens and you learn of a fugitive's capture.

I saw your private messsages and I am sorry for your and your family's loss. Hopefully the Denver, Colorado Police Department will get some decent leads soon that will result in Patrick's capture. There have been a lot of cold case fugitive captures this year so hopefully Patrick's days on the run are numbered. Now just to let you know, we are a fan site for the America's Most Wanted and The Hunt with John Walsh television shows. I understand you would like to try to get this case on The Hunt and I would recommend suggesting it to them. I would also recommend contacting a show called Crime Watch Daily which profiles unsolved crimes, including fugitive cases. This is their website link: crimewatchdaily.com/If there's anything else we can do to help with the publicity, either post it here or message me and we'll look into what we can do to assist.

There is no longer a cold case most wanted fugitive listing but as far as I can tell, Abeyta is unfortunately still at large as of this update (7/29/2018), since I haven't found anything online suggesting otherwise.
Also. I apologize for the bad timing sadson303 as I was away for a week when you first posted. I'm the site administrator so if there's anything I can do to help please let me know.

Hey JMM, once again I can't stress how terribly sorry I am for your loss and Grace's case is beyond tragic and as you said completely senseless. Some of the above options I listed are no longer viable but do you or have you thought about setting up your own social media page to get attention? I'd also see if you can get Project: Cold Case to add Grace's case to their listings, they're a very active and well-read page which keeps a database of homicide victims whose cases are still unsolved: www.projectcoldcase.org/I'll also try to post this thread to In Pursuit: Missing and Wanted which is the show's official Facebook message board. I'll let you know if and when they approve it. www.facebook.com/groups/missingandwantedI also have a contact now at In Pursuit now who usually joins the site whenever they get ready for the new season (whenever the next season will be with all the pandemic stuff going on right now) and I can recommend cases now to them, I can't guarantee anything, one of the requirements are unfortunately the willingness of the city where the case's is police department's willingness to work with them, but I'll at least add Abeyta to the list of cases to recommend. I'd also see if the Facebook page Fugitive Watch would be willing to share Abeyta's case as they do share fugitive stories: www.facebook.com/fugitivewatchtvOnce again good luck, 24 years and counting is way too long to wait for justice.

Also, every Sunday I pick a "Fugitive of the week" or "case of the week" to put on the front page of our website for 7 days to get a little more publicity on the case. I'll make sure to put Abeyta on the front page this Sunday and keep him there for 7 days.

JMM, I also hope you and your family finally get the justice you all deserve. Very sorry for the lack of accountability for the past 24 years, considering that Patrick has remained a free man for all these years while your family has had to deal with Grace's murder. If you want to submit Grace's homicide to Project: Cold Case, but need assistance with the submission form they have, I'll post the link to their Facebook page. You can message them if you have any questions. They would be more than willing to help with publicity on this senseless homicide. www.facebook.com/Projectcoldcase/Edit: I’ll post a link to the actual submission form for families. www.projectcoldcase.org/case-submission/

Just wanted to add that as of today, July 23, 2020, there is still an UFAP case in PACER for Patrick Abeyta that has had no movement since it was issued in April of 2003. At the very least, the UFAP case is still active, unlike in other cases where it's been dismissed since the district attorney's office wasn't wanting to pursue their extradition outside the US.
That means if Patrick is located in Mexico, there should be a good chance of getting him extradited.
