Cops Release Sketch Of Accused Killer
Cops say Barbara Tooley, 59, of Oregon was shot and killed on her birthday while visiting her mother.
October 1, 2009 was Barbara Lea Tooley’s 59th birthday, and she was paying her elderly mother a visit.
Barbara had made the trip to see her mother, Helen Berleta Long, in Glendale, Ore. from the Portland area a few hours north.
Cops say that sometime around 6 p.m., a man was observed walking into the residence.
Once inside, authorities say the man shot Barbara in the head with a handgun, killing her. Then, cops say, the suspect proceeded to shoot Helen, also in the head.
The 88-year-old grandmother survived, and was last listed in critical condition.
A vehicle was seen leaving the location, and investigators say it’s related to the crime. The vehicle is described as a small black, late 1990s to early 2000s SUV, similar in style to a Toyota 4Runner.
The vehicle could also be a small black pickup truck with a canopy. The vehicle had a black bumper, a rear window visor and tinted windows.
Witnesses who saw the suspect approaching and exiting the property said the man is an adult white male of average height with a thin build.
He had a well-developed dark-colored beard, which could have been a fake.
The man’s clothing was described as dark gray or black pants, light blue or gray hooded sweatshirt with pockets in the front.
He was also seen wearing a small dark-colored backpack.
A newly released composite sketch further details the physical description of the alleged murderer. Cops think the suspect is from out of the area and likely didn’t know the victims.
It appears that neither the property nor the victims were targeted for any reason. The lead investigator on the case said the women were well-known in the community and were two fantastic people.
Cops call it a crime of opportunity.

Thoughts? Barbara Tooley’s murder and Helen Long's attempted murder were profiled on the September 14th, 2012 episode of America's Most Wanted. (The above archive doesn't mention the airing but that is because the newer archive links have less detail). I can pretty much confirm this is still unfortunately an active cause for two reasons.
1. There was a 2013 article update stating this case is still unsolved:
katu.com/archive/tooley-murder-remains-unsolved-but-leads-are-coming-in-11-26-2015
2. There is an active "Justice For Barbara & Helen Facebook page that I found when researching this case. I am assuming that Helen has since passed away as well since there are posts about missing her as well. So now it's about justice for both Barbara and Helen (it always was, but now it's for both of their memories.):
