This is indeed a great capture and both fugitives from yesterday's episode of The Hunt are now in custody ☺️

Also they updated that Maria's son Ivan is safe as well on HLN.
Both children were upset which is understandable, but based on last night's episode, Maria was not of the right mind for them to be entirely safe with her.

Oh and duh, they said the capture was a result of two tips to The Hunt, apparently the capture happened just hours after the airing!

Official FBI press release: Tips from Public Lead to Arrest of Pennsylvania Fugitive, Recovery of Child Special Agent in Charge Michael Harpster of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division announced the arrest of fugitive Maria Evelia Cabrera-Gutierrez, and the recovery of her four-year-old son, Daniel Markus. A day after the case was featured on HLN’s "The Hunt with John Walsh," tips to the show’s hotline helped authorities locate Cabrera-Gutierrez in Raymond, Washington. She was taken into custody by the Pacific County (WA) Sheriff’s Department and the Raymond (WA) Police Department, and subsequently admitted her identity. Daniel was located at school and transported to Washington State Child Protective Services, pending the arrival in Washington of his father. In August of 2014, Cabrera-Gutierrez was ordered by a court in Reading, Pennsylvania, to share custody of Daniel with his father, Guy Markus. Cabrera-Gutierrez violated that order by fleeing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by bus with Daniel on November 13, 2014. On November 19, 2014, Cabrera-Gutierrez was charged with interference with custody of children and concealment of whereabouts of a child in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Berks County, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On November 24, 2014, the FBI sought and was issued a federal arrest warrant for Cabrera-Gutierrez in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Allentown, Pennsylvania, after she was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. The FBI would like to thank HLN’s "The Hunt with John Walsh" and the tipsters who helped locate Cabrera-Gutierrez and Daniel Markus, as well as the Pacific County Sheriff’s Department and the Raymond Police Department for their assistance with this matter. Further inquiries should be addressed to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office. www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/philadelphia/news/press-releases/tips-from-public-lead-to-arrest-of-pennsylvania-fugitive-recovery-of-child

Article discussing Guy Markus meeting his son Daniel, whose named had been changed to "Johnny Perez" by Maria. Guy of course was shocked the capture of Cabrera-Gutierrez happened so fast, figuring they'd just get a decent trail to work on for investigators. Guy says at first the child looked confused when he kept calling him Daniel, but eventually he finally said dad. I'm still unsure as to what's going to happen to Maria's other son, Ivan, as he had a different father and was technically not a missing child and Maria did have legal custody of him. On HLN they said he's now 15 years-old. Still, great news and heartwarming to read about Guy's reuniting with his son. www.readingeagle.com/news/article/berks-man-reunited-with-missing-son&template=mobileart

Maria Cabrera-Gutierrez is apparently fighting extradition from Washington state and there may need to be a Governor's warrant to bring her back. Also, officials are working to reunite Ivan with his father in California. Not making excuses for her but based on The Hunt airing and Maria's own daughter's descripton of her behavior, picking at her scalp, talking to herself etc... in my opinion she needs to stop fighting extradition and ask for help instead as she's displayed some signs of mental illness. (That's not to say she doesn't deserve jail time- but she needs help as well). I also feel somewhat bad for Ivan as he was Maria's custodial son and seemingly estranged from his actual father, but for reasons already discussed, him being with Maria may have ultimately turned out to not be entirely safe for him. www.wfmz.com/news/berks/fugitive-moms-return-to-berks-may-have-to-involve-governor/623947417

A local news interview and video segment with Guy Markus. Daniel is also part of the interview too playing with a ball and asking when Guy Markus when he will be done so they can get ice cream lol. Daniel who had been given the name "Johnny Perez" by Maria, is said by Guy to have been living in poor conditions, sometimes without water or power or even a bed. Thankfully though, Daniel seems now aware his name is Daniel and is said to be delighted to be back home. www.wfmz.com/news/berks/father-of-missing-boy-its-just-great-to-have-him-home/624506874

Sigh, such a short sentence, but at least Daniel is back with his father, which is the most important part to the story.

Hi us05412,
Welcome to the forum. (Well first official post!)
I think the reason Maria received such a short sentence is she was charged with custodial interference as opposed to kidnapping. Megan Everett also received a similar light sentnece in regards to Lily Baumann.
I would agree at the end of day I'm just relieved both children are safe even if their parents deserved a harsher punishment.
