Police are looking for a man who has murdered at least 3 people in less than ten years. In 1998, in Missouri, Tony Scherer entered his home to find that this wife Sherri and his daughter Megan were dead. They had been shot in the head and placed in the living room. Megan had also been sexually assaulted. Only two hours later, in Tennessee, a woman was approached by a man at her home, claiming he needed directions to look for his friend "Jeremy Taylor." He then pulled out a gun and a struggle ensued. The woman fled inside her house and was shot in the shoulder. She was able to help work out a composite drawing of what the man looked like, and ballistics tied the crime to the MO double murder. For years, the cases went unsolved. Then, investigators submitted the DNA evidence in the database, and were able to connect it to another homicide. In 1990, in South Carolina, Genevieve Zitricki was found beaten and strangled to death in her bathtub. This gave the killer his third body. A few weeks after the Zitricki murder, a picture of a woman was found near a pair of rubber gloves. Authorities found the woman, and eventually cleared her husband as a suspect. But the killer is still out there. What do you guys think about this case? It was mentioned that the homes were near highways, indicating that the killer may not be familiar with the areas and could've easily slipped back into traffic. This guy could literally be anywhere, and if he isn't already in jail or dead, he's probably continuing to kill. Thoughts? Admin Note #1: Our advice for anyone with information on this case would be to contact the FBI since they mention it on their website. This is the link to their ViCAP page that mentions the Scherer/Zitricki homicides: leb.fbi.gov/2012/october/vicap-alertAdmin Note #2: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-formAttachments:

Not much to add, except that despite him not having to look at one, and I'm probably stating the obvious here it seems he may be a trucker. This is truly a bizarre case.

I personally doubt this guy is a trucker. The homes may have been near highways but it would probably be too awkward to park a transport truck in a residential area (They likely lived in residential areas, but I don't recall for certain). He could be a travelling salesman, have been in a similar occupation or just be a transient who could travel across the Southeastern US.

There is a power plant 8 miles from their house that has plant shutdowns spring and fall for repairs that require sometimes 100's of temporary labor for several weeks. This labor comes from all over Mo and several neighboring states. They will fill every town around up until the work is completed.

Hi Larry,
welcome to the forum!
Thanks for filling us in on that. Seems to be like whoever this killer is could have definitely been a temporary worker at that power plant.

I can't say that I'm surprised, but the worst fear has come true that more horrible crimes are being linked to this serial killer. It sounds like the unsub has never been arrested for a serious felony where his DNA would have been collected, meaning he probably appears like a normal joe in real life.

I was just wondering does anybody like remember as to how many times this case was profiled on A.M.W.?
I started watching the show back in early/late 2006 into 2007 and right til the end of the series itself. I might've seen the case or maybe probably not but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I know they aired at least the Sherri and Megan Scherer case in January 2000.

I take some solace in the fact that the killer didn't live long after the Scherer murders, let alone comfortably. I've gathered about 23 AMW Unknown cases from the year '998, and the Scherer, Scherer, and Zitricki murders were at the top of that list (and my Unknown Dirty Dozen a while ago!). This case really infuriated me because of the extra malice directed at children. The murders of two adult women were merely garden variety murders, but the murder of the 12 year old victim was a sexual murder. I hated whoever did this because he murdered the child in the worst way.

Remember when one of the detectives in this case warned that the composite might not be accurate? Reason I say that is the hair in the undated photo is a little off, and plus, he isn't wearing glasses.
Not only that, the witness in TN said he spoke with a "Northern" Accent, but he was from Arkansas.
