Someone dropped the ball most likely.

I'd rather not go entirely negative just yet- I hope I don't sound desperate but we haven't been told why the case was closed- perhaps he hasn't been released and it was closed for another reason. For all we know, he could have went insane and the case was dropped because he wasn't mentally competent for trial. (I 99.9 percent doubt that happened, just throwing an example out there).
It is entirely possible that someone dropped the ball and Munguia (in my opinion) got away with it, but we unfortunately may never know one way or the other.

So I ran this by my brother in law who is a lawyer, and my father who is a retired state trooper and it appears as though the case is NOT closed. Rather closed in district court and moved to a different judge in a different court district. While researching the court notes, Munguia has went through a plethera of different counsels and it is shocking that the judge is even allowing it, he's intending to really drag it out and make it less memorable. It is expected to be heard next in November

I did warn all of us not to go entirely negative just yet, just the lack of information while it says status closed was rather confusing.

Well this is unexpected he was at the Clark county jail and died at the jail of COVID-19 according to the Las Vegas Review Journal Here’s the article in question confirming it. www.reviewjournal.com/crime/courts/alleged-las-vegas-killer-who-was-on-fbi-most-wanted-list-dies-2450058/Apparently Munguia has been dead since June which explains the ruling, but I’m confused why it’s been reported this late. Under normal times in 2019 I never would’ve thought this was a possibility, but as we live in a much more different world now than we did in 2019, while it was a shock and very unexpected, I hope that he suffered the way he made his wife suffer before he killed her.

Well that finally explains it. Second FBI fugitive we found out today died oddly enough.

Also least important of all this but for anyone wondering about a year or so ago I decided to make a new site policy and only change the thread title to deceased if that was the result of the original manhunt for the fugitive (whether they were killed in a shootout, whether we simply found out they died etc..) so how the manhunt initially ended could be more accurately reflected. Since Munguia was originally captured alive is the reason we have captured still in the thread title. The parentheses is meant to resemble the original result of the manhunt.
