Figured despite the sad news we've learned about Lifetime cancelling AMW (for the time being), we would get back to discussing cases. And this Monday will mark the 25th anniversary of the murder of April Marie Tinsley in Fort Wayne, Indiana. One of the highlights of AMW's first (and only?) season on Lifetime was although they didn't solve it, they impressively breathed a lot of new life into this very cold case. That's what makes this current cancellation so sad since AMW appears so close to solving this mystery. The following is her description from her AMW.com profile April Marie Tinsley was like many other 8-year-old girls, spending her days with friends and playing outside. But on Good Friday, April 1, 1988, someone took her innocence, and her life. Investigators have released new evidence which we've uploaded to the "Media" tab of this case file, and are asking for your help in identifying and arresting her killer. web.archive.org/web/20120830124220/http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=64668The first time Tinsley's case aired on Fox it generated around 700 tips. The August 24th, 2012 airing led to an addition 70 tips. That means around 800 tips. Lifetime needs to un-cancel AMW so they can finally close this case. Who do you think April Tinsley's killer may be? www.indianasnewscenter.com/news/local/John-Walsh-is-Reportedly-Coming-to-Fort-Wayne-166766526.htmlwww.fwpd.org/april/press.htmAdmin Note #1: According to press release, anyone with any information on this case should contact the Fort Wayne Police Department at 1-260-427-1404 or e-mail Email: aprilinfo@ci.ft-wayne.in.us Admin Note #2: If you have any news-related updated information on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

In my opinion, I think the killer is a sexual predator who obviously couldn't stop and did eventually wind up in prison for another crime. His last taunts were from 2004, which is relatively recent, but it imo he would have tried to make contact and taunt again after the latest media about him, sort of the same way BTK resurfaced later on. His taunts are described in the link below this quote from it: "In 2004, a series of four notes were found in the Fort Wayne area that police believe were from April's killer. The notes were written on yellow lined paper, placed inside plastic bags along with used condoms and/or Polaroid pictures of the killer's body." crime.about.com/b/2009/04/06/april-tinsley-fbi-joins-cold-case-investigation.htmIf he isn't in jail, then imo, like BTK he's a respected member of the community or a community nearby that everyone respects. Someone that people can't imagine doing something like this. This so often turns out to be the case.

So remember last year all the talk about tips and how close the Fort Wayne P.D. said they were to an arrest? A year after AMW's second Tinsley airing on Lifetime and STILL nothing. I'm sorry, I don't care how old this case is. With the nearly 800 tips on AMW plus the evidence they revealed on the latest episode, I feel there is no reason for this case to remain unsolved. There are unsolved homicides from one week ago that do not have as much to go on. I really wish the FBI would take over this investigation. The Fort Wayne P.D. looked like they meant well in their airings, but it's time an outside perspective with more resources finally solves this tragic murder.

Whoever killed April Tinsley does sound like he'll be Dennis Rader (The BTK Killer) all over again. They should have the killer's DNA from those used condoms so if they ever find a potential suspect they can see if they can make a match.

A memorial is being planned to honor April Tinsley. The Hoagland and Masterson neighborhood association has agreed to do a small memorial for April at the southwest corner of Hoagland and Masterson avenues that lilely will include a tree, a plaque and a bench. The memorial will be placed on a lot owned by Jim Obergfell, a member of the association. April lived in and was abducted from the neighborhood. www.news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20150403/NEWS/150409900

A 65-year old man named Daniel Furlong, who was arrested in 2007 for the murder of 11-year old Jodi Parrack, and is now being discussed as a possible suspect in the 1997 disappearance of Brittney Ann Beers, has a lot of similarities to the April Tinsley case. I will reveal some details and want to warn readers in advance that some of this may be disturbing: -Prosecutors alleged that Furlong bound Jodi's wrists with zip ties, placed her in a boat in his garage, sexually assaulted her, and put a bag over her head. As we may recall, April was suffocated to death. -In August 2015, Furlong allegedly abducted a 10-year old girl in White Pigeon, Michigan, but she managed to escape. After that incident, police found a list inside Furlong's garage of children's names in the neighborhood.- As we may recall, in 2004, several notes were left in 2004 at the houses of the female children in April's neighborhood in Fort Wayne. -Furlong is 65 years old. Meaning he would have been 38 at time of April's murder, obviously old and/or young enough to have had a history since 1988. -Both Parrack and Brittney Beers had blonde hair and blue eyes. So did April. -Furlong resided just 45 minutes from Fort Wayne according to a source who alerted me to this. It seems that in these cold case child abductions/murders, criminals who were once looked at or had a history of similar crimes are often responsible.

I may have misspoke, here is the website where I read up on the possible Furlong/Parrack connection. www.facebook.com/AprilMarieTinsley/?fref=tsAnother message board I belong to says the DNA didn't raise red flags- not in CODIS or anything- not that it didn't match. And if you scroll down read the posting, that's essentially what was said. So I assume it is still theoretically possible Furlong could be connected if DNA was re-tested (or if it is still being tested, still unclear on that). I won't hold my breath- this case always looked hopeful towards a resolution after so many tips from the AMW airings and still no arrest- but I will remain hopeful this could be the guy.

The DNA was re-tested. Not a match for Furlong, McCann, or two other suspects. Bummer. This is in my opinion by far the most frustrating cold case of a murdered child, because occasionally something will look hopeful and then it's back to square one again.

No updates but I just realized Jodi Parrack's case was featured on amw.com, although I don't know if she ever made the show itself. A moot point now as Furlong apparently did not murder April Tinsley.

Ok, not much new except the new computer-enhanced sketch of the killer in the segment now has more gray in his hair (still a decent segment though- I was surprised since I thought it was going to be longer than 8 minutes). Here's a sketch from a news report:
