Marcelo Montalvo, wanted out of Clifton, New Jersey for the attempted murder of his wife, was aired on the May 14th, 2005. Below is AMW's archived description of the case:
Police Say Suspect Betrayed Family
Irina Montalvo nearly bled to death the night of September 18, 2003. Police say someone tried to kill her by repeatedly slashing her with a box cutter. Worst of all -- police say that "someone" was Montalvo's husband.
Police say Marcelo Montalvo not only jabbed the blade through Irina's skin, he also squeezed the bloody wounds to make sure Irina bled hard and fast. But cops say Montalvo also betrayed his children that night. Irina Montalvo had a restraining order against Montalvo. But Montalvo allegedly got into the house by talking their kids into letting him inside.
Survival -- and Escape
Irina Montalvo survived the brutal attack. But Marcelo Montalvo managed to escape. He allegedly headed for Georgia to collect $4000 in cash from his brother. After that, police think he may have headed for Ecuador or Puerto Rico, but they can't be sure because he left his passport behind.
Thoughts? I don't see any reports of Montalvo's capture, so I'm assuming he's still at large as of this posting date (8/29/2015). If anyone has proof otherwise, please let us know.
In any case, Montalvo could have very well fled to Puerto Rico or Ecuador, but the fact he left his passport behind can't be of much comfort to Irina.
Since his family may have already allegedly helped them, while I'm not outright accusing them, I think it is fair to speculate and give an opinion as to whether or not they are still helping them. (And in my opinion, while it is only my opinion and not known fact, I think Marcelo has to be receiving help from someone if he's still on the run after 12 years.)
