Hector Ramirez, wanted out of the Bronx, New York, was a web-exclusive case on America's Most Wanted's website. Below is the archive description of his alleged crime:
'Control Freak' Accused of Slaughtering Girlfriend
Elia Zamora’s family was relieved when she made the long trek to New York from their hometown of Atlixco in Mexico’s Puebla state. Now, they hoped, the young woman could finally get away from her son’s father, Hector Ramirez.
Although Hector could charm strangers, Elia’s family knew the man’s true character from an incident that occurred in her brother Rigo’s general store. Irate over some perceived slight, Hector is said to have berated and threatened his common-law wife, prompting Rigo to order the man out of the shop. Without hesitation, Hector allegedly pulled a knife. Elia quickly stepped between the two males, and the situation was diffused. But the family was left with a lingering fear that, under the wrong circumstances, Hector could lash out with deadly force.
“My aunt knew the family was against him,” recalled Elia’s niece, Rachel Torres, 20, “so she stopped talking to the family about him.”
When Elia finally joined Rachel and her mother, Luz Mirabel Donge, in the Bronx, the relatives couldn’t have been happier. The family valued the United States for its educational opportunities. Rachel is an economics major at Hunter College and soon, Elia’s son, Jesus Orlando, was learning English and thriving in his public school.
“He one of the smartest little kids I ever met,” noted NYPD Detective Jim Campbell.
While she attempted to assimilate into her new surroundings, Elia sold Avon. Back in Mexico, though, Ramirez seemed tormented by his separation from his girlfriend and child. He had the name “Eli” tattooed on his inner arm. Across his shoulder blades, he inscribed – in English – “I Wish You Were Here, Orlando.”
Within months, Ramirez was also in the Bronx, working as a busboy at a Dallas BBQ franchise near Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and exhibiting the old signs of possessiveness. When Elia arranged to attend family functions in the New York area, she wouldn’t show up. Relatives say that Ramirez also demanded that she change her phone number. Mexican friends couldn’t write her because she was evasive about providing an address.
“She was always by herself,” said Rachel.
"We found notes, little writings to herself, that she was lonely and very sad.”
Wise beyond his years, 8-year-old Jesus Orlando became his mother’s confidante.
Post-Party Violence
A photo from Aug. 29, 2010, shows Ramirez and Elia at a party in the Bronx. Twenty-eight-year-old Elia smiles radiantly; Ramirez stares suspiciously ahead. Back at home, Ramirez allegedly accused his girlfriend of flirting with other men. It’s an argument Jesus Orlando had heard before and, as another woman who lived in the apartment testified, the child tried to calm his father down.
According to police, the roommate then opened the bedroom door to find Jesus Orlando “trembling with fear.”
“She doesn’t want you here,” the woman apparently told Ramirez. “Leave.”
Ramirez apparently agreed but stated that he needed to get dressed first, and the woman went to another part of the apartment. But less than five minutes later, police say Elia shouted the roommate’s name.
When the roommate entered the hallway, she told police, she saw Ramirez running from the apartment, while pushing something into his pants pocket. Elia was standing in the bathroom, attempting to wrap a towel around her bloody chest.
“Mommy!” the witness said Jesus Orlando screamed. “Mommy! Hold on! Call an ambulance!”
With her child watching in horror, Elia muttered, “I’ve been hurt,” stumbling into the hallway and collapsing on the floor.
By the time paramedics arrived, the roommate said, Elia was no longer breathing.
'I Saw Daddy Punch Mommy In The Chest'
Police say Ramirez stabbed Elia to death.
“I saw Daddy punch Mommy in the chest,” the boy told detectives. “I saw blood on Mommy’s chest, and he ran out.”
“My aunt had become used to his treatment,” Rachel said. “There are probably people who saw things they didn’t tell us. There’s nothing we can do to change that. All we can hope for now is justice.”
Detective Campbell has vowed to assist Elia’s family, but needs the public’s help in apprehending Ramirez.
“He gets these tattoos, showing how much he loves his family, and then he goes and does this," Detective Campbell said.
In many ways, Ramirez is indistinguishable from other illegal aliens working in kitchens around the United States.
“He has a half-sister in Salem, Oregon,” Detective Joe O’Neil said. “He could be making his way out there, but I have a feeling she wouldn’t be very happy to see him.”
According to police, Ramirez’s sibling has urged him to spare both families any more agony, and surrender to authorities.
Motioning out the window at the South Bronx, the detective continued, “For all I know, he could be working right here. He can go anywhere in this city, and no one would give him a second look.”
However, Ramirez does stand out from his fellow immigrants because of his tattoo, a piece of art expressing the fugitive’s desire to be with his son – a boy, who according to Rachel, “pretty much hates” the man accused of taking the mother’s life.
Thoughts? As mentioned above, some guy, he gets tattoos showing how much he loves his girlfriend and son and then allegedly stabs his girlfriend to death and leaves his son without a mother. It turns out that tattoos weren't love- but perhaps just a sign of him feeling he possessed those around him.
As far as I know Ramirez is still at large as of this posting date (6/14/2015) since I don't see any news articles online suggesting otherwise. As always, if anyone has proof otherwise, feel free to let us know. I am surprised this case never got a tv airing on AMW itself.
