Mario Lozano has been wanted by Watsonville, California police for over a decade. He was aired twice on AMW, once in October 2008 and another time as a 15 seconds of shame case. Below is an archived description of his case:
Teen Killed Defending Cousin
Police say 17-year-old Isaac Guzman was a few months shy of graduating from high school, and like many teens, he was contemplating his career. Isaac not only considered going to college, but also thought about working in construction like his father, or becoming a fireman. But Isaac's dreams fell short when his life came to a sudden and violent end.
Like most days, on December 3, 2004, Isaac walked from Community High School to a local bakery in downtown Watsonville, Calif. where he waited for his father to give him a ride home. According to cops, as Isaac was waiting for his ride, he did not know that 21-year-old gang member Mario Albert Lozano was cruising the streets, waiting for school to end, looking for Isaac -- and looking to start trouble.
Isaac knew Lozano well. Cops tell AMW that Lozano was a hardened local gang member who was dating Isaac's cousin, Roxann. Family members say the relationship between Lozano and Roxann was tumultuous: they believed Lozano was abusing Roxann and even threw her out of the house. Roxann wanted to end the relationship, but felt trapped because Lozano had a firecracker temper.
Isaac knew Lozano was repeatedly battering Roxann and wanted to put an end to the ongoing domestic violence. For weeks, tension between Isaac and Lozano escalated until it turned deadly. Cops say that when Lozano saw Isaac waiting at the local bakery, he thought he would take matters into his own hands. Lozano exited the car and approached Isaac. The argument instantly turned violent and Isaac was no match for Lozano's strength. Detectives say that Lozano used a military-style combat knife to stab Isaac 37 times in an uncontrollable rage during broad daylight in the middle of a heavily populated civic district. With stunned pedestrians nearby, Isaac was left on the sidewalk to die.
Witnesses Pursue Suspect
Numerous citizens witnessed the shocking homicide and were enraged by the very public murder. Witnesses readily came forward and provided police with detailed accounts of the incident. One witness told police that Lozano was so worn down from repeatedly stabbing Isaac that he was too exhausted and slow to leave the crime scene. Another witness chased Lozano in his car and took pictures of him fleeing. Some photos show Lozano running away with the murder weapon still in his hand.
Now, Isaac's family is left to mourn the loss of a good son, nephew and cousin. Roxann is engulfed with guilt and said she feels responsible for Isaac's death. Isaac's mother, Violet Guzman, cried out, "He meant more than anything to me. He was someone you could talk to and trust."
Police say that Lozano used his vast network of gang contacts to elude arrest and his family helped him flee from California. However, cops say Lozano may be back in California or can be in Arizona or Mexico.
Thoughts? That above archive says it was written by eventual Executive-in-Charge Roger Chiang! Anyway the reason I'm posting this is there's a new article about the case I will post below which I found thanks to HeadMarshal! Police have released an age-enhanced sketch which I posted at the top. The article's a pretty good one besides accidentally thinking Lozano was on a show called "15 seconds of Shame" - if there was actually a show called that, trying to figure out how to set your DVR for fifteen seconds would be a nightmare.
Seriously, this is not only a tragic but very underrated case in my opinion. Only an animal does what Lozano allegedly did. All just for defending a cousin. It's not fair and it's not right Lozano hasn't been brought to justice yet. He is a ticking time bomb and the family unfortunately feels this case has been forgotten. Well, I haven't forgotten and hopefully someone who knows where this guy is hasn't forgotten as well. If you know where Lozano is, call Watsonville police immediately.
