A man has been arrested during the investigation of a fatal shooting that occurred outside Aladdin's Dream Boutique & Gentlemen's Club on 13502 Regional Drive.
Oscar Leonidas Aguilar-Chicas was charged with possession of a firearm by a person illegally present in the United States.
Meanwhile, the search continues for Carlos Alfredo Rodriguez Ruiz, 25. He has warrants out for his arrest for murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Laredo police.
To report his whereabouts, call 795-2800 or Laredo Crime Stoppers at 727-TIPS (8477). Information provided through Crime Stoppers may be rewarded with up to $1,000. Callers will remain anonymous.
Regarding Aguilar-Chicas’ arrest, LPD officers responded to a shooting at about 1:30 a.m. on June 14 at the the parking lot of Aladdin's. First officers on the scene encountered Juan Camilo Cortinas, 25, unresponsive with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Cortinas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers then made contact with Aguilar-Chicas, who was found in the parking lot of Aladdin’s near the shooting scene. LPD crimes against persons detectives arrived to take over the investigation. Aguilar-Chicas allowed investigators to search a gray Jeep Commander.
A search of the Jeep yielded a silver and black Smith & Wesson .22 caliber pistol with obliterated serial numbers and 10 live rounds, according to an arrest affidavit.
Authorities also found an empty Glock pistol magazine that was located inside the center console. Special agents and task force officers with the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to interview Aguilar-Chicas.
“Aguilar-Chicas stated he went to Aladdin’s after receiving a phone call from his boss. Aguilar-Chicas also stated that his boss was going to speak to someone in the Aladdin’s parking lot,” states the affidavit.
Records do not specify who his boss is or who was the person his boss was supposed to speak with at the Aladdin’s parking lot. Aguilar-Chicas further admitted that he took possession of the gun about six days ago.
He moved the pistol from a table to a chimney at his boss’ ranch house located at Las Lomas Ranch on June 8. Aguilar-Chicas added he was the passenger in the Jeep before arriving at Aladdin’s. The driver gave Aguilar-Chicas the keys when they arrived at the business. The driver then took off walking and never returned, according to court documents.
“Aguilar-Chicas stated he provided consent to search the Jeep to LPD investigators because he had the keys and control of the vehicle. In addition, Aguilar-Chicas stated he has previously driven the Jeep on several occasions. Aguilar-Chicas stated he was waiting to meet with his boss behind Aladdin’s when he heard the shots fired on the other side of the building,” states the affidavit.
Records revealed that Aguilar-Chicas was deported in 2017. He knew he was not supposed to be in possession of any firearms, according to court documents.

Thoughts? As far as I can tell, Rodriguez Ruiz is still at large as of today's posting date (July 8th, 2021), since the above article is from only a few weeks ago, with no updates about a capture that I could find online since. However, if his wanted status has since changed and/or changes in the future, anyone is more than welcome to let us know.
