YAKIMA -- Police have a warrant out for the arrest of a former Virginia Mason Memorial doctor facing charges of rape, and who police say didn't show up his court date this week.
These charges coming after two patients came forward, in 2017 and 2018, telling police Dr. Alberto Roman-Cabezas had given them medically unnecessary pelvic exams multiple times while they were in his care.
According to police a woman first contacted them in December 2017 saying the doctor had given her the unnecessary exam 7 times over three days while she was at the hospital.
She told police Roman-Cabezas wasn't wearing examination gloves and did this when there was no one else in the room.
The victim says she told nurses about the examination who said that it was not normal and that she could call police.
Police investigated and say they found that nowhere in the hospital records for those days had a pelvic examination been recorded by the doctor.
Officers say they also spoke to multiple other medical providers who said a medical exam would not used to treat or diagnose the condition that the victim was at the hospital to have treated.
Medical providers also said doing a pelvic exam without gloves and a chaperone would be "a gross deviation from standard procedures."
In October 2018, police say another patient came forward with complaints about Dr. Roman Cabezas.
She also described incidents of Roman Cabezas doing a pelvic exam without gloves and without a chaperone present.
According to court documents, after receiving the second complaint, Virginia Mason Memorial moved to fire Roman-Cabezas in November 2018 and he then resigned from the hospital.
In December 2019, two years after the first complaint, prosecutors filed two charges of 2nd Degree Rape and two charges of Indecent Liberties by a Health Care Provider against Roman-Cabezas.
The courts also issued a summon to Roman-Cabezas to appear in court Monday, January 13th.
Prosecutors say Roman-Cabezas never appeared for his preliminary appearance Monday morning, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
According to court documents, police believe Roman-Cabezas has moved from the area and is now living in North Carolina.
